Cendura's Cohesion Integrated With HP OpenView Network Node Manager

Software Integration Offers Customers Improved Visibility Across Networked Application and Services Configurations Affecting Performance, Availability and Compliance

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- August 8, 2005 -- Cendura (www.cendura.com), a leader in automated business process solutions for IT services configuration management, today announced that the company has integrated its flagship product, Cohesion, with HP OpenView Network Node Manager. The integration is designed to provide customers with an integrated network applications change, configuration and compliance management solution.

Cohesion automates the configuration lifecycle processes required for managing complex application infrastructures. Many Fortune 500 organizations use Cohesion to inventory servers, operating systems, components, and their respective configuration states; to track and validate changes of multi-tier software across platforms and components; to monitor policy compliance at the configuration level with rules and best practices; and to improve application configuration states by determining what changed and streamlining repair.

"To increase service levels, IT needs increased visibility across the changes to the configuration settings that affect application security, performance and compliance," said Rick McEachern, Chief Marketing Officer, Cendura. "Cohesion discovers all application configuration settings, and then tracks and audits changes against reference standards or best practices rules. With the integration, HP OpenView clients can gain greater levels of visibility into configuration changes that might be causing application brownouts or outages. With this data, customers should be able to streamline troubleshooting and share data across silos to better meet service levels and reduce costs."

Intended customer benefits from the Cohesion integration with HP OpenView Network Node Manager include:

-- Unified view of application infrastructure
-- Ability to easily reconcile all changes with help desk approved
    changes
-- Automatic notification of configuration rule and policy violations
-- Faster problem identification and isolation of configuration errors

Specific functionality includes:

Accelerated Discovery -- Cohesion users can auto-populate their Cohesion configuration management database (CMDB) by discovering servers and the software applications that are installed on them as well as collect additional information about server and network device data from HP OpenView Network Node Manager.

Rule Violation Notification -- Cohesion provides an Intelligent Rules Engine that allows IT organizations to define best practices configuration rules on files or parameters. Businesses can group sets of rules quickly to build complete policies for security, performance, and operational compliance. Verification of operational compliance with these rule sets can be scheduled and applied to applications or services across the data center.

With the integration, when rule violations occur, notification will be sent via Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) traps to Network Node Manager. IT staff can either access the rule violation in Cohesion or alert the proper staff to take action.

Change Detection Notification -- Cohesion Intelligent Change Detection (ICM) Engine lets users remotely remediate configuration changes. More than simply reporting when changes occur, ICM is intended to enable true on-the-spot problem correction and management.

When an application configuration change occurs, the detected change is sent as an SNMP trap to the HP OpenView Network Node Manager console. The Network Node Manager operator can launch the Cohesion console via a URL, which is embedded in the SNMP trap to view the changes, and either accept or repair them.

The Cendura Cohesion SmartLink integration for HP OpenView Network Node Manager is available today for customers with HP OpenView environments. To find out more about becoming a Cendura partner, call (866) 263-3911 or email sales@cendura.com.
