Centenario Updates on Pelusa Property Drilling Program

China infill program extends copper mineralization to east and north; Drilling at India and China Sur targets encounters widespread mineralization.

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Feb. 26, 2008) - Centenario Copper Corporation ("Centenario" or the "Company") (TSX:CCT) is pleased to announce further results from an ongoing drilling program at its wholly owned Pelusa Property, located adjacent to its Franke Property, 65 km. north of the town of Diego de Almagro in Region III of Chile. In the second half of 2007, a Pelusa drilling campaign was initiated with the purpose of infill and extension drilling of the existing China deposit discovery area and initial testing of other priority leachable copper targets. Assay results for the Thailand and Japan target areas have been previously reported. This release reports on infill assay results from China, and initial assay results from India and China Sur.

Highlights from the recent program include:

- China infill drilling completed, generally confirming existing oxide copper and carbonate (CO3) grades while extending mineralization to the east and north of previous resource boundaries:

- Initial drilling at India target area, located immediately south-west of SW Japan, encounters near surface manto-type oxide mineralization over surface area of 300 metres N-S and 150 metres E-W; copper grade tenor appears lower than China but modestly higher than SW Japan and with similar CO3 levels;

- Initial drilling at China Sur, located immediately south of the China deposit area, encounters long intervals of oxide and sulphide copper mineralization with N-NW orientation, averaging 500 - 600 metres in length by approximately 100 to 150 metres in width and open to the north; copper grade tenor appears moderately lower than China, with higher CO3 levels;

- Infill drilling now underway (to 50 metre centers) at SW Japan, India and China Sur, with completion targeted by March 2008;

- Updated resource calculation underway at China, to be followed by initial resource calculations for SW Japan, India and China Sur, with completion expected in Q2 2008;

- Metallurgical program underway to determine leachable copper recoveries and acid consumption parameters for variety of crush sizes, which will provide basis for process design and mine planning analysis;

- Integrated "Pelusa Leachable Copper" Scoping study planned for latter part of 2008.

Infill drilling at China suggests the potential for a modest increase in the significant resource already outlined at this deposit. While the total copper grade at India and SW Japan appear to be lower than China, the continuity of mineralization appears to be good, the material is highly soluble, and the carbonate grades are modest. Our current understanding of China Sur is less well developed, but the long intervals of mineralization suggest the potential for a larger system, which we are now evaluating. The close proximity of the Pelusa property to the Franke processing plant significantly lowers the tonnage / grade economic threshold for exploiting leachable copper mineralization, compared to a standalone project, especially in periods of high copper prices. We intend to study this potential in a scoping study over the course of this year."

More detailed of results from each target area are set out below. Property maps setting out the various leachable copper target areas within the Pelusa property are included at the end of this release and are available on the Company's web site (www.centenariocopper.com). Tables of all assay results for each of China, India and China Sur are also included at the back of this release.

China deposit infill drilling:

The China deposit was discovered by Centenario in late 2006. Between September 2006 and March 2007, the Company completed 16,837 metres of drilling on the China target area which was followed by an initial resource estimate of 12.0 million tonnes of Indicated Mineral Resources at a total copper grade of 0.56% and 19.3 million tonnes of Inferred Mineral Resources at a total copper grade of 0.50% (see Pelusa NI 43-101 Technical Report, dated May 31, 2007). This resource covered an area of around 400 metres north-south and 700 metres east-west.

Since August 2007, a further 11,404 (60 holes) metres of RC drilling have been completed in the China area, targeted at converting Inferred Mineral Resources into Measured and Indicated Mineral Resources and in extending the limits of the deposit. The infill holes have generally increased the drilling density to roughly 50 metre centers throughout the deposit area. Results were generally within expectations within the oxide portion of the deposit, while also modestly extending the known mineralization to the east and north. The results of this program are discussed below, broken out by area of the deposit.

Central Infill: Infill drilling has better defined the mineralization at depth in the central part of the China deposit, generally confirming the previous grades in this area. It also encountered variable intervals of generally lower grade copper mineralization in the sulphides, indicating that the sulphide potential in depth is strongly controlled by structures. Key intervals include the following apparent widths:



- Hole 215: 72 metres of 0.50% CuT; 0.42% CuS and 0.5% CO3, from surface;
and
58 metres of 0.47% CuT; 0.09% CuS and 1.9% CO3, from 74 metres
- Hole 216: 110 metres of 0.52% CuT; 0.40% CuS and 0.4% CO3, from surface
- Hole 221: 46 metres of 0.86% CuT; 0.75% CuS and 1.3% CO3, from 36 metres;
and
18 metres of 0.44% CuT; 0.05% CuS and 3.3% CO3, from 82 metres;
and
60 metres of 0.40% CuT; 0.05% CuS and 1.8% CO3, from 110 metres
- Hole 223: 48 metres of 0.48% CuT; 0.38% CuS and 0.8% CO3, from 24 metres
- Hole 225: 66 metres of 0.33% CuT; 0.29% CuS and 0.8% CO3, from 4 metres;
and
54 metres of 0.37% CuT; 0.05% CuS and 2.0% CO3, from 70 metres
- Hole 230: 80 metres of 0.41% CuT; 0.06% CuS and 2.2% CO3, from 60 metres
- Hole 236: 60 metres of 0.81% CuT; 0.58% CuS and 1.0% CO3, from 26 metres;
and
58 metres of 0.59% CuT; 0.12% CuS and 0.9% CO3, from 86 metres;
and
22 metres of 0.37% CuT; 0.07% CuS and 1.1% CO3, from 164 metres


Eastern Extension: Drilling was successful in defining extensions to the previously identified areas of mineralization, adding tonnage while also tightening the overall drill spacing. The carbonate level (CO3) of these intervals are generally similar to, or lower than, the average of the rest of the China deposit (carbonate grade is an indicator of the quantity of acid consumed in copper extraction - by way of comparison, the average CO3 grade at the China deposit is about 2.3%, whereas the average CO3 grade in Franke deposit is about 4.1%). Key intervals from Eastern extension drilling include the following apparent widths:



- Hole 201: 26 metres of 0.89% CuT; 0.79% CuS and 0.9% CO3, from 18 metres
- Hole 203: 36 metres of 0.48% CuT; 0.41% CuS and 0.4% CO3, from surface
- Hole 204: 46 metres of 0.39% CuT; 0.32% CuS and 0.4% CO3, from 20 metres
- Hole 205: 30 metres of 0.82% CuT; 0.61% CuS and 1.7% CO3, from 88 metres
- Hole 207: 60 metres of 0.36% CuT; 0.34% CuS and 1.1% CO3, from 2 metres
- Hole 208: 50 metres of 0.48% CuT; 0.43% CuS and 0.5% CO3, from surface
- Hole 209: 62 metres of 0.45% CuT; 0.42% CuS and 0.4% CO3, from 2 metres

Northern Extension: Holes drilled to the north of the deposit identified new areas of copper oxide mineralization, indicating the potential to extend open pitable leachable tonnage by approximately 100 metres to the north. The new mineralization is located near surface to the east and deepens to the west. Key intervals include the following apparent widths:



- Hole 219: 24 metres of 0.30% CuT; 0.21% CuS and 0.2% CO3, from 10 metres
- Hole 226: 42 metres of 0.50% CuT; 0.31% CuS and 1.1% CO3, from 34 metres
- Hole 227: 14 metres of 1.21% CuT; 0.09% CuS and 1.1% CO3, from 74 metres
- Hole 228: 12 metres of 0.80% CuT; 0.75% CuS and 1.6% CO3, from 6 metres
- Hole 231: 32 metres of 0.39% CuT; 0.04% CuS and 1.6% CO3, from 72 metres
- Hole 232: 38 metres of 0.41% CuT; 0.21% CuS and 0.6% CO3, from 50 metres
- Hole 234: 24 metres of 0.50% CuT; 0.45% CuS and 2.0% CO3, from 38 metres
- Hole 240: 30 metres of 0.45% CuT; 0.05% CuS and 3.9% CO3, from 80 metres


Western Extension: Extension drilling to the west of the deposit area also encountered copper mineralization, but these intervals were generally at depth mostly in sulphides, and unlikely to add to an open pitable leachable resource. These results were consistent with the Company's initial interpretation that a layer of post mineral cover develops and thickens to the west. Key intervals include the following apparent widths:



- Hole 244: 12 metres of 0.64% CuT; 0.53% CuS and 1.8% CO3, from 70 metres
- Hole 250: 36 metres of 0.46% CuT; 0.35% CuS and 2.1% CO3, from 60 metres;
and
12 metres of 0.45% CuT; 0.02% CuS and 3.2% CO3, from 138 metres;
and
8 metres of 0.44% CuT; 0.02% CuS and 1.3% CO3, from 160 metres
- Hole 251: 20 metres of 0.39% CuT; 0.02% CuS and 3.8% CO3, from 142 metres
- Hole 254: 24 metres of 0.37% CuT; 0.06% CuS and 4.1% CO3, from 124 metres
- Hole 255: 18 metres of 0.42% CuT; 0.35% CuS and 3.8% CO3, from 96 metres


Southern Extension: No extension drilling was conducted to the south of the deposit area, where the deposit has been closed off by a fault structure.

With the completion of infill and extension drilling at China, an updated resource calculation is now underway at China and is expected to be completed by early in the second quarter of 2008.

Initial drilling of other priority targets:

Following the success at China, in 2007 the Company completed an extensive geochemical and geophysical survey over much of the Pelusa property area which identified a number of priority targets for leachable copper mineralization. In August 2007, a program was initiated to conduct initial drilling on these priority targets, and a total of 17,336 metres of drilling has been completed to date. The results from initial drilling on the Thailand and Japan target areas were previously reported (see CCT News Release 07-05, dated November 14, 2007). Drilling at Thailand identified several areas of copper mineralization, but they were generally vein hosted and too discontinuous to be of economic interest. Drilling in the SW area of the Japan target identified an area of widespread, lower grade, oxide copper mineralization with carbonate (CO3) grades similar to those found at the China deposit. Infill drilling is now underway at SW Japan.

The Company has now completed initial drilling on the India and China Sur targets and both areas have returned near surface leachable copper mineralization with grade and intervals that the Company believes are of interest. The targets will require follow-up drilling to better define the mineralized bodies. These results are discussed in the sections below.

India target initial drilling:

The India target area is located immediately south-west of the SW Japan target area. A total of 4,430 metres (54 holes) were drilled at India in the initial drilling campaign. The program has been successful in identifying an area of oxide copper mineralization with an average total copper grade that appears to be modestly higher than SW Japan but lower than China, with carbonate grades similar to those found at SW Japan and China. The currently defined surface area is averaging 500 - 600 metres in length by approximately 100 to 150 metres in width and open to the north, within a relatively thin but near-surface layer of manto-type mineralization and is open to the south-east. Highlights include the following apparent widths:



- Hole 2: 14 metres of 0.48% CuT, 0.35% CuS and 4.9% CO3, from 4 metres
- Hole 5: 16 metres of 0.32% CuT, 0.27% CuS and 1.0% CO3, from 6 metres
- Hole 10: 8 metres of 0.53% CuT, 0.38% CuS and 1.7% CO3, from 54 metres
- Hole 17: 38 metres of 0.44% CuT, 0.40% CuS and 0.8% CO3, from 2 metres
- Hole 18: 22 metres of 0.42% CuT, 0.25% CuS and 3.3% CO3, from 20 metres
- Hole 23: 50 metres of 0.28% CuT, 0.23% CuS and 1.3% CO3, from 32 metres
- Hole 27: 22 metres of 0.42% CuT, 0.37% CuS and 1.3% CO3, from 4 metres
- Hole 33: 22 metres of 0.42% CuT, 0.36% CuS and 2.5% CO3, from 20 metres
- Hole 35: 42 metres of 0.28% CuT, 0.21% CuS and 1.3% CO3, from 34 metres
- Hole 36: 54 metres of 0.55% CuT, 0.50% CuS and 3.8% CO3, from 12 metres
- Hole 39: 14 metres of 0.58% CuT, 0.54% CuS and 0.6% CO3, from 28 metres
- Hole 40: 6 metres of 0.76% CuT, 0.62% CuS and 0.4% CO3, from 32 metres
- Hole 45: 36 metres of 0.35% CuT, 0.35% CuS and 1.2% CO3, from 10 metres


Mineralization in the India area is almost entirely oxides, with very few intervals of sulphide intercepted. Follow-up drilling is now underway at India to test open areas to the southeast and infill holes to tighten the drill spacing to 50 metre centers over the area of interest.

China Sur target initial drilling:

The China Sur target area is located immediately to the south of the China deposit area, and continues to the southern border of the Pelusa property, some 800 metres away. An initial drill program of 6,580 metres (34 holes) has been completed on 100 metre centers, over an area of approximately 900 metres east-west and 400 metres north-south. The drilling has encountered an area of mineralization averaging 500- 600 metres in length by approximately 100 to 150 metres in width. It is open to the north and is open but limited to the south by the Pelusa property boundary. The results are characterized by some long intervals in both oxides and sulphides, with a tenor of copper grades that appears to be moderately lower than China. However, the CO3 level appears to be higher than that of China, and close to the level at Franke. Key intervals include the following apparent widths:



- Hole 1: 168 metres of 0.41% CuT, 0.03% CuS and 5.1% CO3, from 94 metres
- Hole 3: 62 metres of 0.61% CuT, 0.46% CuT and 5.6% CO3, from 16 metres;
and
60 metres of 0.44% CuT, 0.08% CuS and 6.9% CO3, from 78 metres;
and
38 metres of 0.58% CuT, 0.02% CuS and 3.2% CO3, from 154 metes
- Hole 9: 30 metres of 0.26% CuT, 0.18% CuS and 2.7% CO3, from 14 metres;
and
126 metres of 0.52% CuT, 0.05% CuS and 4.2% CO3, from 60 metres;

The long intervals of both oxide and sulphide mineralization are suggestive of a potentially large system, the controls of which are not yet understood. In order to better understand the continuity of mineralization, Centenario has already commenced an infill program which will tighten the current 100 metre spacing along this trend to 50 metre centers, as well as drilling further to the north where mineralization remains open. Elsewhere on the China Sur target area, initial wide-spaced drilling encountered several areas of relatively thin intervals of copper mineralization. These will be followed up in the next phase of drilling to determine their continuity.

Other Pelusa program activities:

An updated mineral resource calculation is underway for the China deposit. Following completion of infill drilling at SW Japan, India and China Sur, the Company plans to also develop initial resource calculations for these areas, with completion expected in the second quarter of 2008. In parallel with the resource evaluation, a metallurgical program is underway to determine leachable recoveries and acid consumption parameters for a variety of crush sizes, from run-of-mine to down to the minus 1/2" crush size used at Franke. This metallurgical work will form the basis of process design and mine planning analysis in a scoping study planned for the latter part of 2008.

Quality control and Quality Assurance:

All RC holes were sampled on a 2 meters continuous basis, with samples riffle split on site and one quarter sent to the ALS Chemex laboratory in La Serena. A half sample was stored at a Company facility for reference. Samples were regularly collected by a truck belonging to ALS Chemex and transported to the laboratory. Samples were prepared using the following standard protocol: drying, crushing to better than 95% passing 2 mm, splitting and pulverizing a 200 g subsample to 95% passing 0.106mm. All samples were analyzed for CuT, CuSol and CO3. A full QA/QC program, involving insertion of appropriate fine and coarse blanks, standards and field and lab duplicates was employed with acceptable results.

Roman Flores, Exploration Manager of Centenario's Chilean subsidiaries, a geologist with more than 33 years experience, was responsible for the design and conduct of the exploration. Tom Henricksen, a consultant to Geovectra S.A., a specialized, Santiago Chile based mining consulting company, and with more than 36 years of experience, is the Qualified Person for the purposes of NI 43-101, has recently visited the property and has reviewed and approved the information contained herein in this press release.

About Centenario Copper Corporation:

The Company was founded in 2004 with the goal of becoming a mid-tier copper producer and consolidator, active in regions of low sovereign risk. Centenario currently operates exclusively in Regions II and III of Chile. The Company intends to achieve its goal through the acquisition and development of advanced, mid-sized copper projects.
