Century Mining to Commence West Plug Drill Program at Sigma-Lamaque Complex

BLAINE, WASHINGTON--(CCNMatthews - Aug. 2, 2005) - Century Mining Corporation (TSX VENTURE:CMM) is pleased to announce an exploration drill program targeting mineralization on the West Plug at the Sigma-Lamaque Complex, which is expected to commence by mid-August.

The West Plug is located on the Company's Lamaque Property approximately two kilometres from the Sigma mill, and hosts shears and extension veins within a granodioritic plug geologically equivalent to the Main Plug of the Lamaque Mine. The Main Plug of the Lamaque Mine produced over 4 million ounces of gold during its 50-year history.

Currently the West Plug has Measured & Indicated Resources of 695,000 tonnes at a grade of 2.29 g/t gold (51,100 ounces) using a cut-off grade of 0.5 g/t gold. In addition, the West Plug has Inferred Resources of 489,000 tonnes at a grade of 1.88 g/t gold at the same cut-off grade (29,600 ounces). These resources are NI 43-101 compliant, and were included as part of a Technical Report for the Sigma-Lamaque Complex by Ms. Tracy J. Armstrong, P.Geologist, of T.J. Armstrong Geological Consulting Inc. and a "Qualified Person" for purposes of NI 43-101. The report was published on the SEDAR web site on October 20, 2004 after review by the TSX Venture Exchange.

The first phase of the drill program is comprised of at least 20 holes of diamond drilling and reverse circulation drilling with a minimum of 1,000 metres of each method. Additional drilling will be implemented as geologic conditions dictate. The holes are targeted to add substantially to the Resources of the West Plug, and to move existing Resources into the Reserve category, primarily in advance of open pit mining. The major part of the program is expected to be completed by the fourth quarter. It is anticipated that ore from the West Plug will provide another source of ore for the Sigma mill.

"This project is the next step in our corporate strategy of developing properties with previously discovered, yet undeveloped, mineral assets. The West Plug mineralization is just one of several targets within the Sigma-Lamaque Complex that advances this objective", said Margaret Kent, the Company's President and Chief Executive Officer.
