Cerius Executives Survey Finds Demand for Interim C-Suite Executives Growing

The 'Independent Executive' Infographic Details New Genre of Contingent Workforce

IRVINE, CA--(Marketwired - May 23, 2016) - Business consultants are getting younger -- with high pay and a flexible schedule among the top reasons for the growth in interim executive work.

That's according to results of the new 'The Independent Executive' survey released by Cerius Executives that profiles executive-level contingent worker trends.

"Experienced executives have a number of options when making their next career choice from taking a full-time position, focusing on board work or going independent," stated Pamela Wasley, CEO of Cerius Executives, a fast-growing on-demand interim executive placement firm. "At Cerius, we get a number of questions surrounding what the interim executive career choice looks like, what an executive can expect and why executives choose this path. The results of our survey answer those questions."

Cerius conducted the survey among its thousands of interim executives asking questions about their age, experience, assignments and work-life balance. Top findings include:

Experience and Expertise

  • 75% of executives surveyed are baby boomers (born 1946-1964)
  • 17.2% of executives are Gen X (born 1965-1980)
  • 45% routinely engage at the interim CEO and president level
  • 41.3% routinely engage at the operations level

Reasons for Choosing Interim/Consulting Work

  • 31% are paid over $200 per hour
  • 58.5% love the freedom of interim/consulting work and the great work-life balance that it brings
  • 90% would recommend interim or consulting work to another executive
  • Just over 50% worked at least 2 days a week on an assignment over the last two years
  • 73% said interim consulting has been more active this year than in 2015
