CF-18 Fighters to Escort Returning Troops

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - March 17, 2014) - Two CF-18 Hornet fighter jets from 3 Wing, Bagotville, Quebec will escort a CC-177 Globemaster III transport aircraft into Ottawa tomorrow morning as it brings home the last contingent of Canadian troops returning from Afghanistan.

Local residents may hear and see these fighter aircraft as they escort the transport aircraft on the final leg of its journey. Depending on operational requirements, the two jets may or may not land along with the CC-177 once the escort duty has been completed.

The practice of having a fighter escort for returning troops is standard operating procedure for the Canadian Armed Forces, and is regarded as a welcoming gesture and a demonstration of pride.
