OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Nov. 10, 2011) - On November 11, 2011, five deserving Canadian Forces (CF) personnel and a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) will stand sentry at the National War Memorial in Ottawa as part of the national Remembrance Day ceremony.

"I congratulate the members of the Canadian Forces and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police who were selected to participate in the 2011 Remembrance Day Sentry program," said Chief of the Defence Staff General Walt Natynczyk. "I am extremely proud of those deserving CF members who have been chosen to be our sentries for the very important and honourable national Remembrance event."

For over 10 years, the Remembrance Day Sentry program has recognized outstanding Regular and Reserve Force sailors, soldiers, airmen, and airwomen of the Canadian Forces and members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) for their dedication, professionalism, and performance within their communities.

"Participants are selected from a list of qualified members who have been acknowledged for their hard work and accomplishments," said Rear-Admiral Andy Smith, Chief of Military Personnel. "These members will be part of a very distinct honour that they will never forget."

The three-day program includes a visit to the Parliament grounds, Rideau Hall, and the RCMP National Operations Centre. Following the November 11 ceremony, the sentries attend the CDS-hosted Silver Cross Mother's Luncheon.
