CFB Petawawa Soldiers Return From Afghanistan

CFB PETAWAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - March 27, 2009) - Soldiers from CFB Petawawa, along with reservists from across Ontario, are returning home from their mission in Afghanistan.

Approximately 1,800 soldiers will be returning to CFB Petawawa between the end of March and the first week of May. Another approximately 400 reservists will be returning to Canada during this time. This redeployment signals the end of the current rotation of CFB Petawawa soldiers in Afghanistan.

The following units are returning to CFB Petawawa from Afghanistan; the Kandahar Provincial Reconstruction Team (KPRT), the Operational Mentor Liaison Team (OMLT), the 3rd Battalion, The Royal Canadian Regiment Battle Group (3 RCR BG), and the National Support Element (NSE).

"As a community, both military and civilian, we are all are looking forward to having our soldiers come home," said Colonel Dean Milner, Commander of 2 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group, "All of these soldiers have been doing outstanding work in contributing to the ongoing effort to rebuild the nation of Afghanistan. They have made a significant impact to the ongoing NATO mission."

From Kandahar, soldiers from CFB Petawawa will return to Canada via Cyprus. They will arrive in Canada at the Ottawa airport and will then return to CFB Petawawa via military transport to be reunited with their families and loved ones. The soldiers returning to Petawawa have been serving in Afghanistan since September of 2008.

Soldiers from CFB Valcartier will be replacing the Petawawa-based troops in Kandahar province.
