CFIA/Allergy Alert-Undeclared Almonds, Hazelnuts and Peanuts in Various Cafe Tasse Brand Chocolate Bars

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Dec. 15, 2006) - Audio clips available at www.inspection.gc.ca/english/direct/media/.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is warning people with allergies to almond, hazelnut, or peanut proteins not to consume various Cafe Tasse brand chocolate bars described below. The affected products may contain almonds, hazelnuts and / or peanuts which are not declared on the label.

All codes of the following Cafe Tasse brand chocolate bars, products of Belgium, are affected by this alert.

These products may have been distributed nationally and are known to be sold through the internet.

There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products.

Consumption of these products may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction in persons with allergies to almond, hazelnut, or peanut proteins.

The importer is voluntarily recalling the affected products from the marketplace. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.
