CFIA/Allergy Alert: Undeclared Sulphites in Maple Smell Brand Dried Sweet Potato

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Sept. 28, 2011) - Audio clips available at

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Summer Star Trading Co. Ltd. are warning people with sensitivity to sulphites not to consume the Maple Smell brand Dried Sweet Potato described below. The affected product contains sulphites which are not declared on the label.

The Maple Smell brand Dried Sweet Potato, product of China, is sold in 400 g packages bearing UPC 6 930992 401032 and Lot code

This product has been distributed in Ontario.

There has been one reported allergic reaction associated with the consumption of this product.

Consumption of this product may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction in persons with sensitivity to sulphites.

The importer, Summer Star Trading Co. Ltd., Toronto, ON is voluntarily recalling the affected product from the marketplace. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.
