OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Aug. 13, 2011) - Audio clips available at www.inspection.gc.ca/english/corpaffr/relations/indexaude.shtml.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and My Country Delicatessen Limited are warning the public not to consume the ready-to-eat meat products described below because they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

All ready-to-eat meat products purchased from the deli counter at My Country Delicatessen Limited, 4351 Queen Street, Niagara Falls, ON, on or before August 10, 2011, are affected by this alert.

Some deli packages may not bear a label indicating brand or a Best Before date. Consumers who cannot determine the original product identity or Best Before date are advised to check with My Country Delicatessen Limited to determine if the product is affected.

There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products.

Food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes may not look or smell spoiled. Consumption of food contaminated with these bacteria may cause listeriosis, a foodborne illness. Listeriosis can cause high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness and nausea. Pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk. Infected pregnant women may experience only a mild, flu-like illness, however, infections during pregnancy can lead to premature delivery, infection of the newborn, or even stillbirth.

The manufacturer and retailer, My Country Delicatessen Limited, Niagara Falls, ON, is voluntarily recalling the affected products from the marketplace. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.
