CFIA: Notice to Editors

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Dec. 1, 2006) - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is issuing two food safety fact sheets in anticipation of the upcoming holiday season. As the festive season approaches, we start thinking of family get-togethers, parties with friends and gift-giving ideas. During this time, it's important to follow safe food handling practices when giving or making food for yourself, your family and your friends. Follow the simple tips in Food Safety Facts for the Holidays to avoid foodborne illness and make the holidays truly happy and healthy. And consider the information provided on allergies in the Tree Nuts fact sheet when gift giving or laying out holiday snacks.

While food safety is important all the time, these food safety tips serve as a reminder that safe food practices, including handling, cooking and storage, are especially important during the holiday season.

You can view these fact sheets, along with additional food safety information, on the CFIA Web site at You can also find food safety information on the Canadian Partnership for Consumer Food Safety Education Web site at

Thanks for helping us get these important food safety messages to consumers.

The fact sheets are available on the CCNMatthews' website at the following address:
