CGG GeoSoftware Deploys Objectivity's ThingSpan(TM) to Enable Parallel Seismic Data Analysis

Geoscience Leader CGG to Present a CGG GeoSoftware Case Study With Objectivity at Strata + Hadoop World in San Jose, Calif.

SAN JOSE, CA--(Marketwired - March 22, 2016) - Objectivity, Inc. today announced that it has teamed up with CGG GeoSoftware to enable parallel seismic data visualization and analysis with a Lambda-compliant architecture powered by Objectivity's ThingSpan™ platform. This project will ultimately allow CGG GeoSoftware to cost-effectively leverage and analyze larger volumes of data in less time, thereby enabling their clients to achieve more accurate scientific results.

"Geophysical service providers like CGG have been managing 'Big Data' long before the term became mainstream, and our partnership will enable CGG to drive advancements in data management and analysis more economically and with higher scalability than ever before. Objectivity is excited to work with CGG on ThingSpan as it develops ways to extract significantly more value from geoscience data," said John J. Jarrell, CEO at Objectivity.

ThingSpan is designed to accelerate time-to-production of Industrial Internet of Things applications. Using a scale-out approach on commodity hardware, it runs natively on top of the Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS) as a YARN application while using Apache Spark for workflow and data transformation. CGG GeoSoftware's use of ThingSpan to support a Lambda-compliant framework drastically lowers the total cost of ownership and will ultimately allow researchers and analysts across all geoscience disciplines to easily collaborate on the same platform.

"Over the past ten years, Objectivity has been an excellent partner in proactively supporting CGG's ability to fully leverage various IT advances in our commercial oil and gas software solutions. Its ThingSpan platform continues that trend by providing a low-risk avenue to harness the Hadoop ecosystem, thereby increasing the deployment options available to our clients," said Kamal Al-Yahya, senior vice president at CGG GeoSoftware.

Objectivity and CGG will present their joint case study during their session, "How the Oil and Gas Industry is Igniting a Spark with Information Fusion and Metadata Analytics," at Strata + Hadoop World in San Jose, Calif. on Mar. 31. Brian Clark, VP of Products at Objectivity, and Marco Ippolito, Software Architect, Data Model at CGG GeoSoftware, will give an overview of a parallel seismic analytic framework based on Objectivity's ThingSpan and explain why big data challenges in oil and gas are relevant for all enterprises.
