CGI Selected as Business Process Redesign Services Contractor for New England States Collaborative Insurance Exchange Systems (NESCIES) Project

Commonwealth of Massachusetts to utilize CGI's services to transform Massachusetts Health Connector

FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA--(Marketwire - July 14, 2011) - CGI Group Inc. (NYSE:GIB) (TSX:GIB.A), a leading provider of information technology (IT) and business process services, today announced it has been selected by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as the Business Process Redesign Services Contractor for the New England States Collaborative Insurance Exchange Systems (NESCIES) project. The NESCIES project, funded as one of the early innovator states by the Center for Consumer Information and Insurance Oversight (CCIIO), will establish a flexible Health Insurance Exchange IT framework in Massachusetts that meets the requirements of the Affordable Care Act and can be tailored to the needs of the New England states and beyond.

"Massachusetts was seeking a knowledgeable IT partner to help guide us through this transformation and to collaborate on a vision for the future of the Massachusetts Exchange," said Robert Nevins, NESCIES Principal Operational Lead and Chief Operating Officer of the Massachusetts Health Connector. "This partnership provides us with the expertise to support the business process and programmatic changes so that the IT infrastructure can support successful transformation."

CGI will evaluate the current Massachusetts Health Connector's IT components, including eligibility, consumer shopping, enrollment, premium billing and reporting, to ensure it meets and exceeds federal health reform requirements. CGI will also assess the Connector's current components to create a technology roadmap to guide further Health Insurance Exchange transformation in Massachusetts and implementations across other New England states.

A recipient of an "Early Innovator's" cooperative agreement from the federal government, Massachusetts, in collaboration with the University of Massachusetts Medical School, is the lead state for this multi-state, collaborative NESCIES project. The project also supports Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont.

"The NESCIES project builds upon the groundbreaking health reform and insurance systems pioneered in Massachusetts," said Jay Himmelstein, MD, MPH, NESCIES Director and Professor at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. "As a recipient of an early innovator grant and through collaboration with our partners, we have the opportunity to expand on lessons learned and envision sustainable and flexible solutions that can be shared not only in New England, but across the country."

"CGI has a unique perspective on how to help states through this transformation," said Holli Ploog, Vice-President, CGI. "We bring deep knowledge and insight across many disciplines from our extensive work with federal agencies, state governments and leading commercial health insurers. We are thrilled to work with the Commonwealth as they continue to trail blaze this new frontier."
