CGOC Expert Practitioner Series: Reducing Legal Risk and Cost in Data Collection Featuring Abbott

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA--(Marketwire - June 11, 2010) -  CGOC, a practitioners' forum focused on retention, legal hold and discovery practices, has made available the webinar replay of its May 20th web meeting, "Reducing Legal Risk and Cost in Data Collection" featuring Kim Borzick of Abbott. During the one-hour webinar, Kim shared her processes and experience in rigorous, efficient data collections. The webinar covered Judge Schiendlin's recent Pension Committee case which calls for counsel to actively monitor the collection process; the results of a practitioners' survey on data collections were also presented.

"Judge Schiendlin framed the legal holds process for litigants many years ago and in Pension Committee, she frames the process for data collection. She expects counsel to monitor the process at every point, which requires a level of legal-to-IT visibility that few companies have today," said Deidre Paknad, founder of CGOC, and president and CEO of PSS Systems. "Corporate counsel needs to understand who is performing the collection, ensure that they are competent, monitor the collection as it is completed, and be accountable for collection process integrity -- the days of throwing a spreadsheet over the fence to IT are gone. This webinar offers a practitioner's example enabling the expected level of control and transparency to reduce legal risk and increase IT efficiency."

The topics covered in this webinar included:

Judge Schiendlin's Expectations for Legal Hold and Data Collection Processes

  • The importance of clear, complete instructions from legal to IT in reducing error and wasted time
