Win a holiday of a lifetime as Thomas Cook launches 'It is a wonderful world' and its biggest Facebook competition to date

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - March 8, 2012) - Package holidays expert Thomas Cook is today launching its biggest ever Facebook competition to coincide with the start of the company's brand new multimedia campaign - 'It is a wonderful world'.

Going live on Thomas Cook's Facebook page from Thursday, 8 March, the photo-led competition places the chance to win a £20,000 dream holiday at the click of a camera button.

So if you're currently searching for cheap holidays, this may be a chance to do some serious mental upgrading. Whether it's a round-the-world tour, a family trip to Disney with VIP treatment or a holiday for the extended family in Devon, this new marketing initiative, which features 60 distinctive shots from around the world, hopes to inspire holidaymakers and showcase the breadth of destinations offered by the trusted travel retailer.

Viewers can see the video via Facebook or Thomas Cook's own blog, and the travel giant hopes its advert-inspired competition will see people draw creatively from the company's exploring founder, Mr Thomas Cook, and be part of the company's celebrations around the 140th anniversary of his first round-the-world tour in 1872.

To enter, people must upload a photo of themselves enjoying their 'wonderful world', which portrays their exploring spirit, to the Thomas Cook Facebook page

An esteemed panel of judges will shortlist the photo entries and the entire Thomas Cook Facebook community will then pick the winner from that shortlist.

The winner will then sit down with his or her own dedicated Thomas Cook travel advisor to help them plan the holiday of their dreams - which can be for any number of people, to anywhere in the world, and cost up to £20,000.

Michael Johnson, Director of Marketing from Thomas Cook, said: 'It's not about the location in the photo - that could be Botswana or Barnet. And it's not about the photographic quality either.

'It's about photos that show people enjoying their wonderful world and convey a pioneering sense of adventure, whether catching your first wave, pot holing in Cheddar Gorge, abseiling down a landmark building or eating strange local delicacies.

'Alternatively, it might include a touch of humour and emotion, such as Gran snorkelling in the sea, Dad belly dancing with the locals or your child tucking into their first paella.'

The closing date for photo submissions is 31 May. Judging will take place between 1 and 8 June, and the judges will be asked to vote for the winner between 9 June and 18 June. The winner will be announced at 5pm on 18 June.
