Charges Laid Against a Former Member of the Canadian Armed Forces

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Feb. 28, 2014) - The Canadian Forces National Investigation Service (CFNIS), the investigative arm of the Canadian Forces Military Police, has charged a former Canadian Armed Forces Reserve member with sexual assault allegedly committed in a housing unit at Uplands in Ottawa. Due to a publication ban, the name of the individual charged will not be released.

On February 26, 2014, the individual was charged with the following offences in relation to five victims:

  • five counts of Sexual Assault, contrary to section 271 of the Criminal Code of Canada;

  • five counts of Sexual Interference, contrary to section 151 of the Criminal Code of Canada; and

  • one count of Sexual Exploitation, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

The accused was released with conditions on February 28, 2014.

It is alleged that this individual lured young victims into his residence where he fondled them.

Military Police patrols have been increased in the Uplands community to ensure the safety and security of the community residents.

The CFNIS is a unit within the independent Canadian Forces Military Police Group whose mandate is to investigate serious and sensitive matters in relation to Department of National Defence property, Department of National Defence employees and Canadian Armed Forces personnel serving in Canada and around the world.
