Charm Diamond Centres named one of Canada's 50 Best Managed Companies for 2007

DARTMOUTH, NOVA SCOTIA--(Marketwire - Feb. 25, 2008) - Charm Diamond Centres, the largest Canadian-owned retail jewelry chain in the country, has been selected as a winner of Canada's 50 Best Managed Companies for 2007, showing that the customer is still "king" in Canada and that employees are treated like royalty.

The family-owned Charm Diamond Centres' mission and vision statement is to "Win the Customer for Life," which it does by investing valuable time and resources into training, incentives programs and leadership development, among other progressive initiatives, for its dedicated team of employees. The company's organizational structure was designed in reverse to the traditional one, with the president on the bottom of the chart and the sales associates at the top. The role of senior management is to listen, support and assist the employees in whatever is required to meet the company's mission and vision statement.

"Our initial goal was to create a company that was free from hierarchy and where the values, thoughts and ideas of each and every employee mattered," said Troy Calder, president and COO of Charm Diamond Centres. "Our corporate culture is one that builds and develops its members with mutual respect. We're extremely proud to receive this particular award because it reflects the corporate culture we have worked diligently to cultivate."

One of the largest users of Canadian diamonds in the world, Charm Diamond Centres has created one of Canada's major brands in its exclusive Glacier Fire. With a goal to expand and capitalize on the market for Canadian diamonds, the company now offers three brands of Canadian diamonds.

Charm Diamond Centres is committed to standing behind its products and services. Some of the company's offerings include: an unbeatable pricing policy, which provides customers with the confidence that they're getting the most value from their purchase; a value-pricing model, designed to give the best guaranteed prices every day; a special orders service, to offer more unique custom pieces; and a repair service, to look after those older keepsakes in your wardrobe.

For nearly 35 years, Charm Diamond Centres has also been a strong supporter of local community organizations, contributing to the Children's Miracle Network, the United Way, Big Brothers Big Sisters and the Canadian Cancer Society, among others. Company founder and CEO Richard Calder is also the recent recipient of the 2007 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year Award (Atlantic Region), in the Business-to-Consumer Products and Services category, as well a 2007 Ernst & Young National Citation for Retailing Excellence for Canada.

"The program has become a 'Hall of Fame' for Canada's best companies," said John Hughes, national leader of the Best Managed program. "This year's winners leveraged their entrepreneurial passion to drive their revenue, profits and value in the face of triple-digit oil prices, a strong Canadian dollar and mixed economic signals south of the border."

Other 50 Best Managed Company winners for 2007 include Holt Renfrew, Toronto's leading fashion specialty department store; LASIK MD laser-vision correction clinic in Montreal; and McCain Foods (Canada) in Florenceville, N.B.

All of the winners will be honoured tonight-Monday, Feb. 25-at a gala event in Toronto.
