Chartwell-Quebec: Launch of Second Annual Senior Star Competition

Unique Talent Showcase for Contestants 65 and Over

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - April 5, 2011) - The second annual national Senior Star talent competition has just been launched. Organized by Chartwell-Québec, the event enables individuals aged 65 and over* to show off their singing or musical talents and possibly turn a dream into a reality.

"Because we spend our days with retirees and seniors, we know the kind of talent that's out there. We also realize that over the years, many had to put their passion aside for a variety of reasons. All they needed was an opportunity to showcase their abilities and celebrate their talent," explains Caroline Crête, Vice-President, Sales, at Chartwell-Québec.

This year, 11 regional competitions will be held in May and June across Quebec (details below). During each competition, a panel of three judges, including touring judge Claudette Dion, will choose a winner based on an evaluation grid. "Senior Star is not just a motivator for seniors, it is raising awareness among all of us about the wellbeing of this important group in our society and all they have to offer," affirms Ms. Dion.

The 11 grand prize winners from each regional competition will go on to represent their regions at the Quebec finale on November 2, 2011 in Montreal. The winner, the Senior Star of 2011, will be awarded $5,000 and will represent Quebec at the Canadian finale in Niagara Falls, Ontario, on November 21, 2011.

During its first edition, in 2010, this unique competition drew the interest of over 300 Quebec contestants. The winner was Marie-François Beauregard of Sherbrooke (who sang Je veux vivre from the opera Romeo and Juliette).

Ms. Crête explains that last year's competition confirmed how important this type of initiative is for many seniors. "The excitement the competition generates and the serious approach taken by the contestants are clear indicators of the pleasure the event brings. We are delighted to once again enable all retirees and seniors to embark on this one-of-a-kind adventure, regardless of whether they live in our residences or not."

Those interested have until April 30 to enter by filling in the form available in any of the Chartwell-Québec residences or on
