Chatterbox Publishes Infographic Following Yelp Controversy

LAS VEGAS, NV--(Marketwired - Oct 16, 2014) - In the wake of media attention on Yelp surrounding the backlash from small business owners towards the review-based social platform, marketing and customer retention agency Chatterbox published an infographic providing small business owners with tips for managing and influencing their brand reputation online -- specifically on Yelp, one of the most popular online-review platforms. The "When Yelp Attacks" infographic outlines the substantial benefits to a business of having better reviews; how to approach negative reviews and why it needs to be done; and of course how to efficiently build and leverage good reviews. The dust-up started when a few small business owners accused Yelp of extortion. Yelp recently successfully defended the lawsuit. A more humorous form of "rebellion," totally independent from the lawsuit, is the restaurant owner in San Francisco who has made a point to build the "worst" reputation on Yelp

Chatterbox decided to weigh in on the debate from a neutral standpoint. Giving Yelp the benefit of the doubt that they're not deceptively modifying a business's organic reviews, Karington says, "Disgruntled and difficult customers, along with the real, but unfortunate bad customer experience, are both unavoidable parts of doing business." As the infographic explains -- people expect to see a mix of good and bad reviews, and are suspicious when they do not. Ironically a handful of bad reviews actually make the good ones more believable.
