Chesmar Homes Named 2008 Builder of the Year

HOUSTON, TX--(Marketwire - February 11, 2009) - Houston-based homebuilder Chesmar Homes has been named the 2008 Builder of the Year by the Greater Houston Builders Association. An announcement was made Thursday, February 5 at GHBA's open board meeting.

"This is a great honor for everyone here at Chesmar Homes," said Don Klein, President of Chesmar Homes. "The people here at Chesmar Homes are passionate about homebuilding and work hard to provide quality, energy efficient, affordable homes for our buyers. It's really great to be recognized for this effort."

Launched in April of 2005, Chesmar Homes offers plans from 1,500 to over 3,400 square feet in 14 communities around Houston with prices ranging from the $150s to the $300s. An Energy Star builder, Chesmar Homes' recent commitment to the EPA's Advanced Lighting Package (ALP) as well as the Environments for Living and Certified Green programs mean that each Chesmar home is 27% more efficient than an Energy Star home, 42% more efficient than a home built to code and comes with its own usage and comfort guarantee.

"It was a huge commitment for us to implement the building science techniques and features it takes to be the energy efficiency leader for the Houston area," says Scott Merovitch, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Chesmar. "It's important to us and we think it will be to homebuyers."

All Chesmar Homes come standard with Energy Star rated appliances including a refrigerator and a front load washer/dryer set. These homes are built for high performance with features like insulated, double-pane windows that tilt in for easy cleaning, a 15 SEER HVAC system including a 91% AFUE furnace, R-38 attic insulation, R-13 wall insulation and radiant barrier roof decking; all of which work to benefit buyers by lowering the cost of ownership.
