Chevrolet-Buick-Cadillac Cars Show Momentum as Combined Sales Decline

OSHAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Oct. 1, 2010) - While Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, and Cadillac reported slower retail sales in September, down 19 percent for the month, year-to-date growth is tracking well-above industry rates, at 26 percent. Car sales in particular continue to perform well, posting retail growth of 56 percent in September, and over 44 percent calendar-year-to-date.

"Our sales grew 17 percent this quarter, and clearly September's results were impacted by the end of the GM Employee Pricing Event in August," said Marc Comeau, GM of Canada's vice-president of sales, service and marketing. "However, the employee discount program has also enabled an orderly transition from the past model year to the new model year, helping us lower our overall selling costs and positioning us well for profitable and sustainable growth."

In addition to strong car sales, the Canadian-made Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain led launch products to impressive gains in September, with production capacity bolstered by the start of regular production for Equinox, in Oshawa, for one of North America's fastest-selling vehicles.

"Customers have embraced our newest products, maintaining momentum as we look forward to introducing the Chevrolet Cruze to Canadians in October," added Comeau.

The much-anticipated Chevrolet Cruze, already an international success in over 70 countries, arrives at dealers later this month. Cruze is expected to deliver segment-leading fuel economy, interior space, and standard safety features, setting new benchmarks for the compact segment.

GM announced today that it will offer leasing to Buick and Cadillac customers beginning October 4. October also marks the first full month for GM's innovative Smart Purchase financing option, offering low monthly rates and the option to return the vehicle after 48 or 60 months. Combined with the ongoing Canada Wide Clearance Event, now is a great time to visit a Chevrolet, Buick, GMC or Cadillac showroom to check out GM's leading range of award-winning, high-quality, fuel-efficient vehicles.
