Chevron Upstream Europe Announces Award of Contract to WesternGeco

ABERDEEN, UNITED KINGDOM--(CCNMatthews - July 12, 2005) - Chevron Upstream Europe (CUE) announced today it has awarded a contract to WesternGeco for a 2D seismic survey using their proprietary Q-marine(i) technology. The contract is for a 50-day seismic acquisition programme in Chevron operated exploration licences in the Atlantic Margin in UK and Faroese Waters.

The survey, scheduled for July 2005, will be conducted by the Western Pride seismic survey vessel and is expected to cover more than 3200 kilometres across Chevron operated Faroese Licence F008 and UK Licences P1025, P1165, P1191, P1193, P1194 and P1196.

Commenting on the contract award, Brian Smith, General Manager, Asset Development, CUE said, "Exploration in the Atlantic Margin is a technical challenge due to the presence of extensive basalt layers. We expect the 2D seismic data to deliver a much clearer picture of the sub-basalt reservoir architecture. Application of these advanced seismic technologies is a key component in the successful evaluation of our extensive acreage in the Atlantic Margin."

Roar Bekker, WesternGeco Region Manager Europe-North Africa added: "We are pleased that Chevron has contracted WesternGeco for this technologically advanced survey."

The programme involves the acquisition and processing of long offset data from over/under sources and receivers, designed to enhance low frequency bandwidth. Improved sub-basalt imaging is a key factor in achieving better understanding of the hydrocarbon potential of the region and in delineating exploration opportunities. The streamer steering capability of the Q-Marine system enables the over/under configuration chosen to image this challenging sub-basalt area.
