Chicago Cosmetic Dentist on the Importance of Communication Between Dentists and Labs

Sheldon Seidman, DDS Recognizes the Importance of Good Communication Between a Dentist and Their Lab to Achieve Optimal Restoration Results

CHICAGO, IL--(Marketwired - Apr 28, 2015) -   Having worked with his dental lab for over a decade, Dr. Sheldon Seidman, a cosmetic dentist in Chicago, has learned the crucial need for thorough communication between dentists and the labs they utilize. He says the quality and accuracy of the results rely heavily on this component of the relationship. By sending detailed information to the lab and them understanding the dentist's preferences, Dr. Seidman believes patients can receive the best possible restorations that look and feel natural.

When Dr. Seidman determines that a patient is in need of a dental restoration, such as porcelain veneers or crowns, he first takes an impression of their mouth, and then prepares the tooth and affixes a temporary, for certain cases. To help the lab fully understand how to craft the restoration, Dr. Seidman sends the impression, as well as pictures of the temporary so they can see the exact shape and color that is needed. He says at this point, the skilled ceramists can begin the crafting process, which takes about 7 to 10 days -- after which, Dr. Seidman can bond the restoration to the patient's tooth in their final dental visit.

Having worked with one to two ceramists long term, Dr. Seidman has found that the relationship between dentist and lab technician grows, allowing the ceramist to understand exactly what he wants, often without the dentist having to inform them. Resulting from this close relationship, he says the lab technicians can even give the dentist recommendations on how to improve the final results, creating a mutually beneficial relationship.

Overall, Dr. Seidman has found that having a close relationship with a dental lab, and sending extensive details about what is needed, can offer improved restorations that blend seamlessly with the patient's smile, while also feeling and functioning like their normal tooth.
