Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel Welcomes National Healthcare Leaders to Meeting on Improving Patient Safety

250 Healthcare Leaders Meet at Medline's 4th Annual Prevention Above All Conference

CHICAGO, IL--(Marketwire - Aug 23, 2011) - Chicago's new Mayor Rahm Emanuel welcomed more than 250 of the country's healthcare clinical and quality leaders to the city Monday for a meeting on improving patient safety and reducing medical errors. Hosted by Medline Industries, Inc., the fourth annual "Prevention Above All" conference is bringing together the nation's hospital and long-term care leaders who are advancing cost-effective quality care. In his opening remarks, Mayor Emanuel outlined the city's first comprehensive public health agenda, which was unveiled last week.

The two day meeting features some of the country's most prominent healthcare thought leaders who are discussing practical solutions to improving patient safety and delivering cost-effective quality care. Featured speakers include Carolyn Clancy, Director of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), Mark Chassin, President of the Joint Commission, Victoria Nahum, co-founder and executive director of the Safe Care Campaign and Sorrel King, author and founder of the Josie King Foundation.

Other scheduled speakers include, Richard Clarke, president and CEO of the Healthcare Financial Management Association, James Avery, senior vice president, chief medical officer for Golden Living, Dr. Lee Sacks, executive vice president and chief medical officer of Advocate Health Care, Dale Bratzler, professor of Public Health and Associate Dean in the College of Public Health at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, Trent Haywood, senior vice president of clinical performance and chief medical officer for VHA, Inc., Chris McCarthy, director of the Innovation Learning Network and an Innovation Specialist with Kaiser Permanente's Innovation Consultancy, Jeff Goldsmith, president of Health Futures and Deborah Adler, prominent healthcare package designer.

The conference also features Aron Ralston, the focus of the academy award-nominated movie "127 Hours."
