Chicago Puppeteers Give Life to Gorey's 'The Vinegar Works'

Show Among Many Cultural Events Convenient to Planned Property Management's Gold Coast Residents, Employees

CHICAGO, IL--(Marketwired - Oct 8, 2014) - Puppet shows aren't just for kids, as Chicago's Blair Thomas & Company proves with "The Vinegar Works," a production inspired by the morbidly humorous works of Edward Gorey that ran through June 14 at the Loyola University Museum of Art.

Based on Gorey's "The Vinegar Works: Three Volumes of Moral Instruction," the show has drawn praise for its creative puppetry and morose sense of humor; the Chicago Reader calls "The Vinegar Works" "a stunning feat of artistry and toy theatrical skill." Performances were at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. every Saturday through June 14 at the Loyola University Museum of Art, 820 N. Michigan Ave.

"'The Vinegar Works' is a unique theatrical experience, and it's another example of the diverse cultural opportunities in our great community," said Jasko Omervic of Planned Property Management, which owns and operates a number of residential properties in the Gold Coast area, including 1000 N. La Salle. "There's as much for adults to enjoy as there is for children."

Gorey was a writer and artist most widely known for his pen-and-ink illustrations. Among his most popular works is "The Gashlycrumb Tinies," a volume of "The Vinegar Works" that chronicles the demise of 26 children who represent letters of the alphabet ("'N' is for Neville who died of ennui...").

Although "The Vinegar Works" is intended for general audiences and all ages are welcome, it may be too dark for small children. For admission details and other information, visit
