Chicago Tribune Presents the 31st Annual Printers Row Lit Fest: Expand Your Mind

Largest Literary Festival in the Midwest Celebrates the Transformative Power of Books With Premier Programming and Headlining Authors Including LeVar Burton and More

CHICAGO, IL--(Marketwired - May 21, 2015) - The 31st annual Chicago Tribune Printers Row Lit Fest: Expand Your Mind is proud to announce the 2015 lineup of celebrity authors, chefs, comedians and more, as the Midwest's largest gathering of book lovers gears up to celebrate the power of storytelling. Covering over five city blocks, the festival will welcome over 200 authors, 120 booksellers and 150,000 attendees June 6-7 in Chicago's Printer's Row neighborhood.

This year's festival will be headlined by several prominent authors, including LeVar Burton who was recently named the 2015 Chicago Tribune Young Adult Literary Award winner. Other notable authors and celebrities that will appear at the fest include Aleksandar Hemon, Amber Tamblyn, Bob Saget, Craig Johnson, David Axelrod, Elizabeth Alexander, Erik Larson, George Bodenheimer, Heather Cocks, Jen Lancaster, Jessica Morgan, Kenneth C. Davis, Kevin Coval, Lawrence Wright, Neal Stephenson, Nelson DeMille, Scott Simon, Tavis Smiley and Vendela Vida.

This year's theme, "Expand Your Mind," underscores the power of literacy and its ability to transform and inspire people of all ages, across all platforms. Printers Row Lit Fest celebrates the ideas, imagination and exploration of the written word in all its forms and across hundreds of subjects, featuring booksellers, panel discussions, performers, events and more.

Lit After Dark returns this year, carrying the festivities past 6 p.m. on Saturday, June 6, at select festival locations. Lit After Dark will be headlined by Bob Saget, and feature performances by some of Chicago's newest and most innovative lyricists, hip-hop and spoken-word artists.

Sponsors of the fest include Acura, Big Rig Books, Celebrity Cruises, Chicago Public Library, Columbia College, Lagunitas Brewery, Mystery Writers of America, State Farm and Tsamma Watermelon. CSPAN2's Book TV is scheduled to broadcast live on location during both days of the festival.

Additional features of the 2015 Printers Row Lit Fest include:

  • Seven outdoor stages including Arts & Poetry Stage, Center Stage, Good Eating Stage, Hoy Stage, Lil' Lit Park Stage, Main Stage and RedEye Stage.
  • Over 100 conversations on topics ranging from science fiction to architecture that elevate the allure of books and the diverse impact of the written word.
  • New this year, attendees can participate in a photo scavenger hunt by taking select pictures outlined in the Lit Fest program; the first ten participants to complete the scavenger hunt will win a special merchandise bag from Printers Row.
  • Early access to event programming for Fest Pass members is available, featuring additional benefits for members at the fest.
  • Book donations coordinated by Big Rig Books, a mobile literacy outreach program will also be available during the festival. Big Rig will have representatives on-site at Polk and Federal Streets collecting gently used children's books throughout the weekend to deliver to students at Doolittle Elementary School and the National Teachers Elementary Academy.

Printers Row Lit Fest is held in Chicago's historic Printers Row neighborhood along Dearborn between Congress and Polk Streets; the festival will run Saturday, June 6, from 10 a.m. through 8 p.m. and Sunday, June 7, from 10 a.m. through 6 p.m. All events are free, but seats must be reserved in advance for select programs.
