Chicago's Premier Dance School for Children Celebrates Its 25th Anniversary

CHICAGO, IL--(Marketwire - June 8, 2009) - Studio One Dance Theatre, Chicago's premier school of dance for children, will be celebrating its 25th anniversary on June 13 and 14th. Students of this outstanding south side Beverly community dance troupe have performed at Disney World, on BET, at The Taste of Chicago, and at Chicago's Gospel Fest. Many of its alumni students have gone on to achieve successful careers and have performed in such international venues as "The Nutcracker," "The Lion King," the Chinese production of "Aida" and the play, "Caroline or Change," just to name a few. Studio One alumni can also be found in some of the country's most prestigious dance companies, including Alvin Ailey, Hubbard Street Dance, the Dallas Black Dance Theatre and the Joel Hall Dancers!

Highlights of the shows will include performances with some of today's top actors participating as narrators to the stories that accompany the beautiful dance presentations. Also, adding stirring interest to the show will be the beautiful voices of Chicago's own, Walt Whitman Soul Children, one of the most celebrated youth gospel choirs in the world!

The event, titled "Studio One is... ," will take place at the Center for Performing Arts at Governors State University in University Park, IL. The performances are at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 13th and 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 14th. Tickets are $30. To purchase call 312.437.7373.

About Studio One Dance Theatre

Studio One Dance Theatre was founded in 1984 by Pam Avery after graduating from the University of Colorado. Her vision was to create a unique space where formal dance instruction could expose African American youth to community well being, entrepreneurial and communication skills, arts appreciation, and cultural pride.

Studio One Dance Theatre are producers of many educational plays for children, including the popular play, "Dear President Obama," that recently had a sold-out run at the Chicago Theater for the Performing Arts and that will soon be touring the nation.
