Chick-fil-A Inc. President to Attend Spanish Fort's First Free-Standing Chick-fil-A Restaurant Opening May 25

First 100 Adults in Line to Receive Free Chick-fil-A Food for a Year

SPANISH FORT, AL -- (MARKET WIRE) -- May 23, 2006 -- Chick-fil-A, Inc. President Dan Cathy will be camping overnight for the May 25 opening of Spanish Fort's first free-standing restaurant, where $26,000 in free Chick-fil-A will be given away.

A one-year supply of free Chick-fil-A® Combo Meals (52 coupons) will be given away May 25 to the first 100 adults, age 18 and older with identification, at the new free-standing restaurant at 30500 State Highway 181. The line can begin forming up to 24 hours prior to the opening, with prizes being awarded on Thursday, May 25 between 6 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. The restaurant will open for business at 6:30 a.m.

"We've given away more than $3 million in free Chick-fil-A food since we launched the 'First 100 Fans' promotion in 2003 to celebrate each grand opening," said Cathy, son of the chain's founder Truett Cathy. "It's our way of thanking our raving fans who have supported Chick-fil-A and who continue to show their devotion by camping out in all kinds of weather conditions year-round, all across the country."

With overnight campers often arriving as early as 24 hours in advance and coming from hours away, the parking lot fills with tents, lawn chairs, and TVs while the crowd enjoys entertainment, games, food and even a midnight Chick-fil-A Icedream® party. "It becomes a big overnight tailgating party," said Cathy, who has camped out at more than 50 of the openings.

"We are excited to open Spanish Fort's first Chick-fil-A restaurant," said franchised Operator Johnathan Sadlock, who has been selected to operate the new location with nearly five years of Chick-fil-A Operator experience. "Because of the area's high tourist draw, we're looking forward to introducing the great taste of Chick-fil-A to many visitors who may be trying it for the first time. We know they will become raving fans like so many others who try our freshly prepared menu items."

At the ripe old age of 11, Sadlock was introduced to a career with Chick-fil-A during a "Sixth Grade Career Day." He started his first and only job working at Chick-fil-A during high school, which led to his desire to become a Chick-fil-A franchised Operator himself. After working for eleven years with Chick-fil-A, he was selected to operate his own Chick-fil-A restaurant at age 27. Sadlock's strong work ethic and dedication to excelling in school and in the community was recognized with one of Chick-fil-A's Leadership Scholarships, which he used to obtain a degree in business administration from Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville, Ga.

This week Chick-fil-A enhanced its dessert menu with the addition of hand-spun Milkshakes launched May 22. The new Milkshakes are made from Chick-fil-A's popular "home-style" Icedream®, and are topped with light whipped cream and a maraschino cherry and come in four flavors: cookies & cream, strawberry, chocolate and vanilla. Premium ingredients, including Oreo® Sandwich Cookies and HERSHEY'S chocolate syrup, guarantee the high level of quality that complements Chick-fil-A's menu.

Founder Truett Cathy is marking several milestones this year, including the 60th year anniversary of the opening of his first restaurant, the Dwarf Grill® in Hapeville, Ga., from which the Chick-fil-A chain was launched. Also, the third generation entered the Chick-fil-A business with Cathy's grandson becoming a restaurant Operator in St. Petersburg, Fla. in January.

Chick-fil-A is the nation's second-largest quick-service chicken restaurant chain with more than 1,249 restaurants in 38 states and Washington, D.C. The company reported 2005 system-wide sales of more than $1.975 billion, resulting in a 13.1 percent increase over 2004 figures and a positive 5.87 percent same-store sales performance. The chain expects to add more than 72 locations in 2006, including 61 free-standing restaurants. For more information, visit www.chick-fil-a.com or www.chick-fil-apressroom.com.
