Chick-fil-A President to Camp Out at San Antonio's Third Chick-fil-A Opening This Year; Nov. 17 Opening to Include a Free One-Year Supply of Chick-fil-A to the First 100 People in Line

Operator Celebrates Opening by Donating $1,000 to Salvation Army's Disaster Relief Fund

SAN ANTONIO, TX -- (MARKET WIRE) -- November 15, 2005 -- San Antonio's third free-standing Chick-fil-A restaurant being built this year is opening Nov. 17 at City Base Landing. Chick-fil-A Inc. President Dan Cathy will camp overnight with those in line to receive a one-year supply of Chick-fil-A, with opening also including a $1,000 donation to the Salvation Army's disaster relief fund.

A one-year supply of free Chick-fil-A combo meals (52 coupons) will be given away to the first 100 adults, age 18 and older, in line by 6 a.m. totaling nearly $26,000 in free food. The new restaurant is located at 3214 Southeast Military Dr. People can line up 24 hours prior to the opening, and the prizes will be awarded on Thursday, Nov. 17 sometime between 6 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. The restaurant will officially open for business at 6:30 a.m. and will stay open until 10 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

"We've given away more than $3 million in free Chick-fil-A food since we started the `First 100 Fans' promotion. This event has attracted Chick-fil-A raving fans from across the country to camp out in all types of weather conditions to be among the first 100 in line," said Cathy, son of the chain's founder Truett Cathy. "It becomes a huge tailgating party with campers enjoying several activities throughout the evening such as games, music, prizes, and a midnight Ice Dream party."

Chick-fil-A launched its First 100 Fans promotion in Oct. 2003 in Phoenix and has continued the event at every free-standing and in-line restaurant grand opening across the country. In virtually every region of the country groups of dedicated Chick-fil-A customers have begun to attend multiple openings, with some raving fans camping out at eight or more grand openings. Last year, Dan Cathy attended events at more than 50 grand openings and spent the night outside at more than 25. The event has even attracted campers who had never tried Chick-fil-A.

Don Spice, who has 27 years of experience in the restaurant industry, has been selected to operate the new free-standing location at City Base Landing. Chick-fil-A designated nearly five percent of its overall free-standing growth this year in San Antonio alone. The other two San Antonio Chick-fil-A restaurants opened in May at 6565 Ingram Rd. and in June at 27 NE Loop 410.

"Chick-fil-A has such a strong consumer base in San Antonio with customers loving the convenience that these new free-standing locations provide, such as the drive-thru and a full breakfast starting at 6:30 a.m.," said Spice. "The breakfast menu provides something for everyone from the healthy fresh fruit cup to a bagel chicken sandwich to a Cinnamon Cluster roll to a chicken biscuit to a new line of premium custom-roasted Café Blends Coffees."

Atlanta-based Chick-fil-A is the nation's second-largest quick-service chicken restaurant chain with nearly 1,230 restaurants in 38 states and Washington D.C. The chain expects to build more than 77 locations this year, including 63 free-standing units such as the one in San Antonio.
