Chick-fil-A, Red Cross Team up to Collect for Hurricane Victims at Sept. 29 Grand Opening of Newest Chick-fil-A in Scottsdale

Chick-fil-A, Inc., Will Match Cash Donations up to $1,000 at Open

SCOTTSDALE, AZ -- (MARKET WIRE) -- September 28, 2005 -- Chick-fil-A will open its newest Phoenix-area restaurant on Sept. 29, partnering with the Grand Canyon Chapter of the American Red Cross to collect cash for victims impacted by the recent hurricanes.

"Many of our Chick-fil-A team members and Operators have been affected by the hurricanes along with thousands of others who have lost everything," said Michael Simmon, Operator of the new Chick-fil-A restaurant. "We know our customers will respond with compassion and donations as we celebrate our grand opening with a drive to help dozens of adults and children looking for a new start."

The new Chick-fil-A restaurant will open Sept. 29 and is located at 7000 E. Mayo Blvd., Scottsdale. The first 100 adults in line by 6 a.m. will each receive a free year's supply of Chick-fil-A combo meals (52 coupons). Participants must be 18 years and older and can line up as early as 6 a.m. on Wednesday, with the prizes being awarded on Thursday between 6 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. The restaurant will officially open for business at 6:30 a.m.

Starting Thursday and lasting through Saturday night, Oct. 1, the new restaurant will also be a Red Cross collection point for cash to assist the thousands affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Atlanta-based Chick-fil-A, Inc., will match those contributions up to $1,000, to the Red Cross chapter in Phoenix.

Chick-fil-A's raving fans will gather at the new Scottsdale Chick-fil-A restaurant nearly two years after the First 100 Fans promotion was launched in Goodyear at the opening of the chain's first free-standing restaurant in the state. Even the most extreme weather conditions haven't kept Chick-fil-A raving fans away. In virtually every region of the country groups of dedicated Chick-fil-A customers have begun to attend multiple openings, with some raving fans camping out at eight or more grand openings.

At Chick-fil-A's most recent opening in Arizona, the June opening of the chain's first Scottsdale location, the first person got in line at 10 a.m. and the line reached 100 by 10 p.m. the night before the opening. Two more free-standing Chick-fil-A restaurants are slated to open later this year in Gilbert and Chandler as the chain continues the aggressive Arizona expansion it launched in 2003.

A graduate of Dallas Baptist University, Simmon joined Chick-fil-A in 2003, operating a restaurant in Texas. He and his wife, Kelly, who works as his unit marketing director, relocated to Scottsdale to open the new location. They have two sons, Andrew and Jackson.

The new restaurant is open Monday through Saturday, from 6:30 a.m. until 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 6:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

The breakfast menu includes the popular chicken biscuit along with an expanded lineup which debuted in June featuring the quick-service industry's first premium coffee blends, three custom-roasted Café Blends Coffees, and its new Chick-fil-A Cinnamon Cluster, fresh-baked mini swirls filled with sweet cinnamon served warm with a creamy vanilla icing.

The new items are the second phase of a two-part breakfast menu expansion that has increased breakfast sales in the chain by 30 percent this year. Other items that have been added include the introduction of Chick-fil-A® Chick-n-Minis™, the chain's popular bite-sized Chick-fil-A® Nuggets nestled in a warm mini yeast roll lightly coated with a honey butter spread; and the Bagel Sandwich, a breakfast portion of Chick-fil-A's boneless breast of chicken served between a slice of American cheese and folded egg on a toasted multi-grain bagel.
