Chief Electoral Officer of Canada Submits Report on Federal By-elections in 2006

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - March 29, 2007) - The Chief Electoral Officer of Canada, Marc Mayrand, submitted his report on the by-elections held on November 27, 2006, in the electoral districts of London North Centre (Ontario) and Repentigny (Quebec) to the Speaker of the House of Commons, the Honourable Peter Milliken.

Under subsection 534(2) of the Canada Elections Act, the Chief Electoral Officer must make a report to the Speaker within 90 days after the end of a year in which there have been one or more by-elections.

The text of the report, the official voting results, and the contributions and expenses reported by candidates in the by-elections are available at www.elections.ca.

Elections Canada is an independent body set up by Parliament.
