Chief Googoo Joins DAREarts Board of Directors

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Dec. 11, 2014) - DAREarts is proud to announce that Chief Morley Googoo has officially joined the DAREarts Board of Directors. Chief Googoo is the Regional Chief for Newfoundland and Nova Scotia and has held the educational portfolio for the Assembly of First Nations. He has previously served as Chief of Waycobah for 19 years before becoming Regional Chief in 2011.

As both a longtime advocate for youth programs and a tireless champion for education, Chief Googoo embodies the values and mission of DAREarts. For many years, Chief Googoo has personally spearheaded several initiatives aimed at encouraging positive attitudes in youth; the goals of these programs are identical to those of DAREarts.

He has also worked to improve education in First Nations communities and was instrumental in Waycobah assuming jurisdiction over its education system. We believe that Chief Googoo will be able to provide invaluable insight into the state of the education systems in First Nations communities across Canada and into FNMI culture.

Since 2007, the DAREarts First Roots program has worked with First Nations communities to empower aboriginal youth, including in Sioux Lookout, Webequie FN, Marten Falls FN, Attawapiskat FN, Mississaugas of the New Credit FN, Sipekne'katik FN, Thunder Bay and Pickle Lake. With the guidance of Chief Googoo and the communities, we hope to improve and expand upon these programs.

We look forward to working with Chief Googoo as he begins his directorship with DAREarts.
