Children's Home Gains Advantage From Helpful Hotels in Vienna, Austria

VIENNA, AUSTRIA--(Marketwired - Aug 15, 2013) - Coming to the aid of a Romanian children's home, two prominent Vienna hotels were part of an annual campaign by the South Germany and Switzerland Business Council that recently brought needed services and supplies to children who reside at Stern der Hoffnung near Alba, Iulia. The home is located in Transylvania, a historic region of central Romania.

Joining in the collection and delivery of necessary supplies to the facility in mid-July, the Imperial Riding School Renaissance Vienna and Vienna Marriott Hotel were among 14 hotel properties to participate in the annual community service project. Another Vienna property, the Renaissance Wien Hotel, also joined in the charity project.

In addition to monetary support of the project, which included a nearly 500-mile journey by dedicated engineers and hotel managers, the Marriott-branded Vienna accommodations provided in-kind donations of bed linens, stuffed animals, televisions, toys, etc. collected from service companies, corporate supply agencies, associates and others to help fill vans which were "loaded to the ceiling" for the trip to Alba.

This year's project flew three engineers to Alba a week in advance to focus on kitchen improvements and painting prior to the supply delivery made by hotel general managers in their caravan to the home July 19-21. Upon arrival at the children's facility, the troupe of managers from hotels in Vienna, Austria, Munich, Germany and Zurich, Switzerland unloaded the vans and met with the kids over a meal before making the return trip. An annual event since its inception in 2005, the project has been a stabilizing factor for the children's home in helping them with not only repairs and maintenance, but with supplies and monetary support to assist with the upgrades. In-kind donations that are not needed by the home are sold from a small shop with proceeds benefiting Stern der Hoffnung.
