China Delegation Visits Enersource to Study Municipal Conservation

MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Oct. 18, 2006) –

Attention News Editors:

Enersource Hydro Mississauga hosted a delegation of government officials from the central Chinese city of Zhengzhou today, assisting the group in their quest to learn more about the delivery of municipal sector services in Ontario. At the request of the group, Enersource placed specific focus on outlining its electricity conservation initiatives, demonstrating how local electricity distributors have expanded their reach beyond the basic delivery of hydro to engage citizens with conservation promoting services, and bring forward smaller, distributed sources, of needed electricity generation.

"The City of Mississauga is one tenth of the scale of the area that our Chinese visitors govern, but I believe we conveyed some pretty important concepts, when it comes to scaling back electricity use," said Roland Herman, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Enersource Corporation. "While a translator was necessary to communicate some of our conservation initiatives, our numbers actually speak for themselves," added Herman. "The group took particular note of the 9.3 million kilowatt-hours we have saved through our conservation programs in little more than a year, the equivalent of 1,037 homes annually."

The delegation, a group of 22 senior bureaucrats representing various areas of the municipal government of the city of Zhengzhou, is part of an international exchange initiative of America-Asian & Associates Corp. Zhengzhou is the capital city of China's Henan Province, an important metropolis dating to the Shang dynasty 3500 years ago. The officials are studying electricity and other municipal services. They will be bringing back their findings to the Zhengzhou government which has jurisdiction over an extensive area of districts and county-level cities covering a total area of almost 7500 square kilometers with a population of 7 million.
