Chiropractor Announces Success Treating Clarksville Auto Injury Patients

CLARKSVILLE, TN--(Marketwire - Feb 26, 2012) - Riverside Spine and Wellness Center in Clarksville, Tennessee announced that the chiropractic center is successfully treating patients for auto injuries. The practice's chiropractor uses non-invasive techniques, including spinal adjustment, to correct the underlying cause for back pain, neck pain and headaches. These treatments are designed to restore alignment to the body and provide long-term pain relief without the need for prescription painkillers.

Clarksville chiropractor Dr. David M. Allen announced that his practice has had significant success treating car accident victims for whiplash injuries and chronic pain. Dr. Allen, a graduate of the Spine Research Institute of San Diego, holds an advanced certification in whiplash and brain injury traumatology.

"A car accident is one of the most traumatic events that can happen to the body," said Dr. Allen. "I have studied car accident injuries for many years, and seen firsthand how even minor accidents at slow speeds can lead to chronic pain and long-term impairment. My goal is to raise awareness that there are natural, effective treatments that do not rely on medication."

According to Dr. Allen, even car accidents at slow speeds -- like a fender bender at 5mph -- can cause serious damage to the musculoskeletal system.

Whiplash, one of the most common accident injuries, occurs when the cervical spine is whipped forwards and backwards upon impact. This moves the neck beyond its normal range of motion, straining soft muscle tissue. Accident victims may experience chronic neck pain, soreness and stiffness in the shoulders, and headaches.

Patients may also experience lower back pain following an auto injury. This is caused when the body is thrown forward during impact, moving abruptly and unevenly. A herniated disc in the lower back can also lead to sciatica, a painful condition characterized by radiating pain the legs, buttocks and low back.

"Traditional medical care focuses only on these pain symptoms -- using medication to manage the pain," said Dr. Allen. "While this can provide temporary relief, it is not a permanent solution. As long as the cervical spine is out of alignment, patients will continue to experience pain. Spinal adjustment is a safe, effective treatment for restoring alignment."

Depending on the type of injury, Dr. Allen uses a variety of chiropractic techniques, including the Gonstead Technique, along with spinal decompression therapy. These treatments are designed create space in the spine, correcting the compression caused by an accident so the vertebrae can return to their normal position.

Dr. Allen is also urging auto accident victims to seek treatment as soon as possible following the accident. According to Dr. Allen, it may take weeks or even months for pain from an auto injury to become evident. During this time scar tissue can form, causing long-term pain and slowing down the recovery process.

"The earlier a patient seeks treatment, the better," said Dr. Allen. "However, it is never too late to get healthy. No patient should live with chronic back pain or neck pain. I've seen the benefits my patients have received from spinal adjustments."
