Christian Children's Fund of Canada Receives Support From the Canadian Government to Improve Maternal, Newborn and Child Health in Africa

The Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada Funds a $6.6 Million Project Led by CCFC, in Partnership With ADRA Canada and Emmanuel International Canada

TORONTO, ON--(Marketwired - July 08, 2015) - The Government of Canada today awarded Christian Children's Fund of Canada (CCFC) $6.6 million for the organization's Promoting Maternal, Newborn, Infant and Child Sustainable Health Efforts (PROMISE) initiative, which aims to reduce maternal and child mortality in Ghana, Malawi and Rwanda through an integrated approach focusing on health service delivery and utilization, and improved nutrition.

The PROMISE initiative will help promote respectful and supportive maternity care, as well as mother and baby-friendly environments. It will also help foster engagement by fathers and ensure supportive supervision for new mothers. The initiative will be implemented through a consortium led by CCFC in partnership with ADRA Canada and Emmanuel International Canada.

"We are grateful for the support of the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada, and look forward to working together to improve the health and safety of children, families and communities in developing countries," says Mark Lukowski, Chief Executive Officer at Christian Children's Fund of Canada.

"I congratulate the successful organizations in the Greater Toronto Area that will bring a wealth of expertise and innovative approaches to Canada's efforts to save the lives of mothers, newborns and children in developing countries," says Chris Alexander, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, and Member of Parliament for Ajax-Pickering. "Communities in the developing world will be stronger and more prosperous because of Canada's leadership in saving the lives of mothers and children through better nutrition, immunization, health worker training, micronutrient supplements and more."
