Christian Television Network Forecloses on Children's Camp for Underprivileged Inner City Kids

KIRKLAND LAKE, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - July 24, 2014) - Dominic Kahn purchased a beautiful property in Kirkland Lake in 2010 with plans of developing a much needed camp for underprivileged, First Nations and inner-city kids.

The property has a legacy extending 60 years as it was formerly an Easter Seals Camp for disabled children (formerly known as Northwood Camp). In 2005, Easter Seals sold the property and it was later donated to the Christian Television Network. Dominic purchased the property from the Network in 2010 and Camp Viking at Northwood was born.

Still under development, Camp Viking would be Canada's first Long Term Athlete Development camp for children, following Sport Canada's and Health Canada's directives on how to develop healthy and active kids.

Dominic has worked with youth at-risk in Toronto for more than 20 years, providing rowing coaching to thousands of inner city kids. Camp Viking was the next and final milestone in his philanthropic vision for Canada, and particularly Canadian youth.

Four years later, due to refinancing difficulties, Camp Viking has struggled to make payments to the Network. After several failed attempts to communicate with the Network, Camp Viking was told the property was being foreclosed on. The property was listed for sale on Friday July 18, 2014.

"This is absolutely heartbreaking. Camp Viking is the key piece in our development plans to help kids at risk in our community," said Dominic Kahn, Operator of Camp Viking. "We know that as mortgagees, the Network has the right to foreclose, however, we are asking for just 90 days to fulfil our obligations and bring this camp to fruition."

Historically, it is difficult to find and secure investments and funding in northern Ontario, especially for a project of this nature.

"We are making significant progress with the Province and investors who will help ensure that we meet this 90 day request. We are aware that an offer has already been made on the property. This means that if we don't convince the Christian Television Network for this extension by end of day today, the dream for Camp Viking is no longer possible."
