Christmas Comes Early for Team Wiggle Mountain Bike Rider

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - Dec. 24, 2010) - Team Wiggle's Lee Williams thought all his Christmases had come at once when he was invited to test ride the 2012 Olympic mountain bike course. Lee, who has been sponsored by Wiggle bike shop for several seasons, can now proudly claim to be the first and only athlete to have ridden the course at Hadleigh, East London.

Wiggle is the ultimate online mountain bikes and cycles store and Team Wiggle was thrilled for Lee. The mountain bike rider was himself delighted with the opportunity and seized it with both hands, despite the timing not being ideal.

He said: "I'd been feeling ill and was just falling asleep thinking about how bad I'd felt on the bike that day when I was awoken by a phone call from the head organiser of the Olympic mountain bike event. I could hardly believe it – he explained they would like me to test the Olympic course and provide feedback about it when ridden at pace. Despite being ill, I knew this was too good an opportunity to waste and I had to go."

All work on the site was called to a halt for three hours while Lee raced his Focus Raven 1.0 mountain bike around the course. Although Lee is unable to divulge many details about the course itself, he told us it is "mostly man made with a lot of rock features" and it flows well with "fast hard pack and many tight switchbacks". He added: "Many hours of hard work have created a world class venue for a world class event."

Lee is now treasuring the data he recorded on his Garmin and head cam while riding his mountain bike and is keeping it under wraps to give himself an advantage over competitors should he be selected for the British team come 2012. He said: "I'm really grateful to have had the chance to test a course of such importance and feel this visit will hugely enhance my training and preparation in my bid to achieve my Olympic goal. I expect to be in good enough shape to be selected for the Games and all my training from now until then is based on that very goal."

This ride was also the first time Lee had ridden his 2011 Focus Raven 1.0 mountain bike, which he is already excited about racing in the new year, saying: "Thanks to Wiggle bike shop, I can safely say that whatever start line I find myself on during the 2011 mountain bike season there won't be a better bike."
