Christmas Comes Early for the Less Fortunate

Junior Chamber Holiday Hamper Elves Deliver Christmas Joy

EDMONTON, ALBERTA--(Marketwired - Dec. 14, 2013) - JCI Edmonton is loading up the turkeys and helping their Holiday Hamper Elves deliver groceries and gifts citywide.

At 10 AM today, Saturday, December 14, four pick-up trucks arrived at the Telus Stage entrance of Northlands. Volunteers, JCI Edmonton members, and Holiday Hamper Elves scampered out to greet the sight of truck beds overflowing with turkeys - over 700 of them - destined to brighten the Christmas of families in need throughout our city.

Now in its 10th year, the JCI Edmonton Holiday Hamper program is helping the largest number of families in its history. "It's so amazing that so many people are so willing to help out," says JCI Edmonton Chair Chris Curtola. "We're working with 19 inner city schools this year to ensure that as many families and kids have the happiest holiday possible. We couldn't do this without our incredible donor Elves and all the support we receive from our sponsors and volunteers."

Between 10 AM and 1 PM today, those Elves will be stopping by the Northlands foyer to gather a turkey and roasting pan to add to the Holiday Hampers they've assembled for their designated family. The Elves then head out to deliver their gifts personally. "Not only does the program make a difference in the lives of families in need, it also has a positive impact on the people filling and delivering the hampers. My wife and I have many heartwarming memories from delivery days," says Ryan Kenny, 2013 Holiday Hamper Program Committee Member.

Volunteers are on hand at Northlands today to aid any Elves unable to make deliveries themselves. An appearance by Santa, a children's play stations, hot cocoa, and a choir are augmenting the festive atmosphere. Volunteers willing to make deliveries and gifts of cash for next year's program are always welcome. For more information please visit holidayhamper.ca.
