Comtrend Delivers Power Line Solution to Chunghwa Based on Sigma Designs CG2210 HomePlug AV Adapters

TAIPEI, TAIWAN--(Marketwire - Jun 4, 2012) - Sigma Designs (NASDAQ: SIGM), a leading provider of System-on-Chip (SoC) solutions for home entertainment, connectivity and control, today announced its next generation CG2210 HomePlug AV solution, will be used by Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan's largest service provider, for delivering IPTV services in consumer homes. The CG2210-based product, provided by Comtrend, is a wall mount adapter that plugs into the electrical outlets inside the home and delivers HD quality video across electrical wiring. The selection of the Sigma-based solution followed a rigorous product evaluation process, in which the Comtrend PG-9141 HomePlug AV power line adapters passed acceptance tests and met Chunghwa's set of technical requirements.

Chunghwa Telecom's switch to a new generation of products, based on Sigma's CG2210 chipset, will enable deployment of high quality IPTV service to the growing consumer market in Taiwan. This introduction of Sigma's HomePlug AV solution by Chunghwa represents Sigma Designs' first power line deployment into the Taiwanese consumer IPTV market. The chip distribution relationship between Sigma Designs and Comtrend with Chunghwa Telecom positions Sigma to become a major player in IPTV connectivity in Asia.

With Sigma's next generation CG2210 chipset, every in-home AC power outlet can be a home network connection. The CG2210 features low power consumption for reducing energy costs, Quality of Service (QoS) configuration that allows data stream prioritization for specific applications and LED indicators that display system status and enable simple installation. An optimized software API enables quick customization and product differentiation. On top of this, the CG2210 provides on-chip support for TR-069 which allows remote configuration and monitoring.
