Churchill Club Teams With Silicon Valley Bank and First Move as Co-hosts

SAN JOSE, CA--(Marketwired - Jan 13, 2014) - Churchill Club, Silicon Valley's premier business and technology forum, in partnership with Silicon Valley Bank and First Move, will present, "Meet the 'Mozart of Chess': World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen, in conversation with Peter Thiel," on Thursday, January 16, 2014. Event attendees will hear Carlsen's views on the game, stories of his experience recently winning the championship, and the impact he believes chess can have in education, work, and life. They will also watch Carlsen compete against six people simultaneously while blindfolded.

Carlsen will be interviewed by entrepreneur and investor Peter Thiel, former US-rated Chess Master with a lifelong passion for chess. Thiel is the cofounder of both PayPal and Palantir and currently serves as president of hedge fund Clarium Capital.

"Magnus Carlsen has re-energized the world of chess with his uncommon ability and style. At age 23, he has already become an important figure of our time -- and it's fitting to welcome him into the Silicon Valley innovation community," said Churchill Club CEO Karen Tucker. "People might be surprised at just how connected chess and innovation really are."

Silicon Valley Bank, Innovation Norway, and the Mendell Family Foundation are sponsoring this unique evening of mastery and mystery.
