CHW Names Ben Williams as Chief Information Officer

Senior Executive Leads Technology Initiatives for West's Largest Not-for-Profit Hospital System

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - October 16, 2007) - Catholic Healthcare West (CHW), the nation's eighth largest hospital system, today announced Benjamin R. Williams has joined CHW as senior vice president / chief information officer. Williams will lead the consolidated technology efforts of the organization's 42 hospitals across California, Arizona and Nevada.

Mr. Williams will oversee the organization's business intelligence, information technology and clinical information systems, including the ongoing rollout of CareConnect, CHW's electronic health record and computerized physician order entry system. Managing a team of approximately 1,000 professionals, Mr. Williams is based at the CHW corporate offices in Phoenix and also maintains an office at CHW's headquarters in San Francisco.

Mr. Williams brings more than 20 years' experience in developing strategy, improving operational effectiveness and building high performance teams to CHW. He is the former Senior Vice President of Information Services and Chief Information Officer at St. Joseph Health System, in Orange, CA. Mr. Williams also served in similar positions at Horizon/CMS Healthcare Corporation in Albuquerque, NM, and at Continental Medical Systems in Mechanicsburg, PA. He began his career at Ernst & Young as a manager of audit and business services and later served as senior manager of consulting services at Pricewaterhouse Coopers.

In 2004, Mr. Williams was selected as the Innovator of the Year by the College of Health Information Executives for demonstrating value to his organization through the creative application of technology in support of key strategic business objectives. Additionally, he was honored with the 2005 CIO Magazine Top 100 Award for his work in creating a high-level IT consulting group, establishing a new governance model, and aggregating multiple service and technology partners in order to create a safer patient care model.

He is a graduate of Appalachian State University where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in business administration. He is also a certified public accountant.
