CIDA/Media Advisory: Parliamentary Secretary Paddy Torsney to Host a Forum on International Development in Burlington

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Nov. 9, 2005) - The Honourable Paddy Torsney, Parliamentary Secretary to the Honourable Aileen Carroll, Minister of International Cooperation, will host a forum on international development: Burlington in Action Abroad on November 10 in Burlington.

Ms. Torsney will highlight the Government of Canada's new International Policy Statement and Burlington residents will present their volunteer and professional work in international development assistance.

The Forum will include feature presentations from: Burlington forensic dentist Dr. Bob Wood on his work identifying tsunami victims at the Interpol mass disaster center in Thailand, the Rotary Club on their Polio eradication campaign, Jim Barr on the cooperative movement in Africa and Sri Lanka, and Trevor Weeks on the Nepal School Projects among others.

A photo exhibit will feature works by Canadian photographer Terry Asma, taken during his visit to the tsunami struck region.
