Cig-Arrête™ Tobacco Control Systems Help Ohio Establishments Go Smoke Free

HAMILTON, OH -- (MARKET WIRE) -- December 1, 2006 -- As many owners of bars, restaurants and other public establishments across Ohio scramble to decipher what the passing of Issue 5, Ohio's statewide ban on smoking in all public places and workplaces, will mean for their business, a handful of other bar owners are taking a more proactive approach to the ban. Recognizing that penalties for smoking fall upon both the individual and the establishment, owners are installing new tobacco control technology called Cig-Arrête™ to avoid the $100 to $2,500 fine.

Developed by Radal Technology, a U.K.-based global market leader in the design, manufacture and distribution of risk management products, the Cig-Arrête™ unit comprises an integral Cig-Arrête™ Flame detector and voice sounder module, which provides a voice message when a lighter or match is detected. The unit will detect a flame lit from almost 20 feet away within one second of its lighting. Units are also available which can notify a system administrator, should smoking be detected.

"Our one-of-a-kind detection units have increasing potential to reduce liability on business owners and managers," says Brent Dunleavey, managing director of Radal Technology. "In Ohio, this type of system will help business owners catch smokers before Department of Health officials can impose a fine."

Launched in 1997, Radal Technology has had much success with the system in school districts throughout Europe and the United States. Used in student restrooms, the units have been able to deter many students from taking up smoking. Dunleavey asserts that the system will also help prevent patrons from lighting up inside Ohio establishments.

Ohio is the first Midwestern state to go entirely smoke-free, but other surrounding states are expected to follow suit. The ban becomes effective December 7, 2006; however, representatives from the Ohio Department of Health acknowledge that fines will not be imposed for another six months after this date while enforcement rules are crafted. This gives business owners the opportunity to install the Cig-Arrête™ system, saving them from incurring a fine.

About Radal Technology

Radal Technology Limited was formed in 1997 through a partnership between co-directors Brent Dunleavey and Jonathan Redfearn. Dunleavey and Redfearn set up the company to research the possibility of detecting low levels of cigarette smoke with existing, commercially available sensing technology. This led to the development of a unique alarm system for detecting the illicit use of tobacco products in the workplace, schools, hospitals and other facilities. Since its inception, Radal Technology received numerous awards for innovation and business practice and has launched a full line of anti-smoking products, including the industry's first programmable speech messaging unit.
