Cintara's Product Placement Promotion on Cable Hit "Stargate" Paying Big Dividends for Packet8 VoIP Service and Videophone

Packet8 Offering Chance to Win Videophone Interview With Leading Characters, Trip to Space Age Set, VoIP Service and Equipment

SAN JOSE, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- September 13, 2005 -- Viewers of the sci-fi cable hit shows "Stargate - SG1" and "Stargate Atlantis" are hurtling through cyberspace launching thousands of online entries for their chance to win an all expense paid trip to the series' sets as well as videophone equipment, service packages and interviews with the shows' stars on 8x8's Packet8 branded videophones and Freedom Unlimited residential VoIP service.

Originally slated to end August 31, 2005, Packet8 is extending the contest through September 30, 2005 due to increased consumer interest and a boost in sales attributed to the product placement campaign.

Entrants register for their chance to win at http://www.packet8.com, the website created by Cintara Corporation, a full service branding agency headquartered in San Jose, CA. Other elements of the promotion developed by Cintara for the publicly traded company include online banner advertising as well as notices to "Stargate" web blogs and forums. Rich media efforts will begin in Q4 2005. Cintara initially placed the Packet8 service and products on the "Stargate" series last season and, according to CEO Lisa Tollner, over $1 million in equivalent airtime/media has been generated for its client as a result of the product placement relationship.

"Our objective to increase traffic to Packet8's website and accelerate sales among tech-savvy 25 to 45 year old males is certainly paying dividends. The Packet8 product placement campaign incorporates the product itself, which helps get the message across to consumers in a more entertaining and compelling way. Anyone can buy a product, but being able to talk to one of your favorite TV celebrities makes it unique, memorable, and builds a stronger connection to the Packet8 brand. According to 8x8, revenues for the recently completed first quarter of fiscal 2006 were $6 million, compared with $2.1 million for the same period of fiscal 2005 and $3.9 million for the previous quarter."

"The 'Stargate' placement is perfect for the Packet8 VideoPhone from both an application and audience demographic standpoint," said 8x8 Vice President of Marketing & Sales Huw Rees. "We think that when 'Stargate' fans see how great the Packet8 VideoPhone works on their favorite show, they will be motivated to purchase one of their own to feel more connected with the program as well as with their family and friends."

"To date, we've supplemented product placement with a mix of online, print, outdoor and radio advertising, and the results show that we are engaging consumers and increasing sales." adds Ms. Tollner.
