NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - January 21, 2014) - CipherHealth today announced the launch of an innovative new solution aimed at helping hospitals track and manage patient mobility both in-hospital and post-discharge by leveraging data from the Nike+ FuelBand.
"Nike has gone above and beyond in making it possible to integrate an exceptional piece of hardware into our existing patient-centric application. Nike's sleek, user-friendly FuelBand provides incredible real-time data on movement and rest. Combined with our patient engagement and recovery tools, we can really help get patients moving and on the path to a healthy recovery," said Zach Silverzweig, Co-founder of CipherHealth.
CipherHealth has been helping hospitals communicate with patients and improve outcomes since the company's launch in 2009, and is now working with clients in 30 states across the U.S. Based in New York City, the company is actively preparing for expansion and planning to open offices in Tennessee, Texas, and California in the coming year. CipherHealth's partners have experienced dramatic results: from a 70% reduction in 30-day readmissions of asthma patients to a 30% improvement in targeted HCAHPS domains.
With the Nike+ FuelBand integration, CipherHealth enables clinical leaders to closely monitor a patient's compliance with daily activities and/or exercise regimens after discharge from the hospital. The patient simply wears the Nike+ FuelBand, and the appropriate doctor or nurse is alerted if the patient is not staying on track with in-home rehabilitation and exercise activities. The service can also be used inside the hospital. Patients who are required to ambulate regularly to reduce the risk of clots, infection, and sores are given Nike+ FuelBands, which trigger an alert through CipherHealth's Solar Care System if their activity is too limited.
"We believe this type of integration is exactly in line with Nike's goals when creating the FuelBand solution. The Nike+ FuelBand is a great way for a lot of people to get fit, but for a few, the FuelBand can be a critical component and motivating factor on their paths to health after a hospital visit," said Silverzweig.
