Cisco Expands Developers Program

New Developer Partners Introduce Building Automation, Collaboration, and Management Applications for Cisco, Enabling the Network as the Platform

SAN JOSE, CA--(Marketwire - October 5, 2009) -  Today, Cisco (NASDAQ: CSCO) announced that it has expanded its developers program for businesses and individuals that develop network-based applications. The newly named and updated Cisco Developer Network will offer developers expanded and enhanced technical support, marketing, and sales enablement resources based on different levels of criteria to help drive the development of more applications that take advantage of Cisco APIs. Cisco also announced that BMC, Intel, Italtel, Johnson Controls, and Singlewire have joined Cisco's expanded developer program, and recently introduced building automation, collaboration, and management solutions that operate on Cisco networking products.

Highlights / Key Facts on Cisco Developer Network:

  • The Cisco Developer Network offer developers both application programming interfaces (APIs) software development kits (SDKs) and technical documents for Cisco's Access Routing, Network Management, Unified Communications, Unified Computing, WebEx, and Wireless Networking technologies. To date, more than one million APIs, SDKs and technical documents have been downloaded by developers.
  • By March 2010, Cisco will also offer more APIs and SDKs for other technologies, including Converged Building Systems, TelePresence, and Network and Physical Security.
  • The Cisco Developer Network offers a fast-growing social networking community of more than 14,000 developers, Cisco engineers and product managers who collaborate -- via wikis, blogs and forums -- regarding development ideas, support, and feedback on Cisco networking technologies.
  • The Cisco Developer Network offers three levels for membership that include Registered Developer, Solution Developer, and Preferred Solution Developer.
    • Registered Developers are primarily self-supported, and have access to basic development tools (e.g. APIs, documentation, wikis, blogs).
    • Solution Developers receive a robust set of technical, marketing and sales resources and have been tested for interoperability with Cisco products via Cisco labs.
    • Preferred Solution Developers receive extensive technical, marketing, and sales resources from across Cisco, and are developers with proven customer satisfaction, tested interoperability with Cisco products in Cisco labs, and strong business processes to engage with Cisco industry leading channel partners.
  • Additionally, Cisco provides Solution and Preferred Solution Developer Network members with access to the Cisco Industry Solutions Partner Network (ISPN) go-to-market program. ISPN is a collaborative community of channel partners, application developers and business consultants that work together to deliver network-centric business solutions to the marketplace. ISPN also enables channel partners to quickly identify pre-qualified applications created by developers so they can easily create new solutions that address their customers' specific business requirements, while offering developers a new route to market.

Solutions built on the Cisco network platform:

  • Johnson Controls, Inc. used Cisco Unified Communications SDKs and will provide an integration solution to make its Metasys® building automation system available from any Cisco Unified Internet Protocol (IP) phone. These phones include all desktop and wireless Cisco Unified IP phones with Cisco Communications Manager Revision 6.0 and higher. Now end-users can access their personal settings to adjust their lighting, temperature and blind settings from any Cisco Unified IP phone throughout the facility.
  • Singlewire used Cisco Application Extension Platform APIs to enable its Informacast Voice over IP Paging solution to run off of the Cisco Integrated Services Routers (ISRs). The Informacast solution allows customers to simultaneously send an audio stream and/or text message to multiple IP phones and overhead paging systems. With a push of a button on an IP phone or a click from a PC, customers can send a live, recorded, or scheduled broadcast to one or more paging groups.
  • Italtel developed unified communications applications that provide centralized directory, multi-site extension mobility, and multi-site call forwarding services by using the new Cisco Unified Communications Express Services Interface API for Cisco Unified Communications Manager Express. Italtel's Communication Service Expander (iCSE) applications will be sold to Service Providers as hosted applications to provide enhanced services to Cisco Unified Communications Manager Express premise-based IP-PBX running on Cisco Integrated Services Routers.
