Cisco finishes 1st in Infonetics' security scorecard; Challengers making moves

CAMPBELL, CA--(Marketwired - September 24, 2014) - Telecom market research firm Infonetics Research released excerpts from its 2014 Network and Content Security Vendor Scorecard, which profiles, analyzes, and ranks the 8 leading global vendors of network and content security solutions: Blue Coat, Check Point, Cisco, Dell SonicWall, Fortinet, Juniper, McAfee, and Palo Alto Networks.

The only report of its kind, Infonetics' scorecard evaluates vendors on criteria using actual data and metrics, such as direct feedback from buyers, vendor market share, share momentum, financials, and solution portfolio. This approach eliminates subjective scoring and ensures vendors are assessed accurately and fairly.

"The network and content security space is complex, and there are many vendors and countless market forces pushing and pulling on those vendors. Though Cisco has stiff competition in many of the criteria we cover in our security scorecard, they have a strong lead in market share and an extremely broad product line," says Jeff Wilson, principal analyst for security at Infonetics Research

"Cisco might not be toppled," adds Wilson, "but there are more than a few vendors -- Palo Alto, Fortinet, and Check Point -- challenging Cisco and establishing their presence in the market, and some wildcard vendors have built disruptive product portfolios that could lead to explosive growth in revenue and increases in their scores in future versions of this report."

  • Network and content security products are the 1st line of defense for organizations looking to protect networks, users, applications, and data
  • The overall leader in Infonetics' security vendor scorecard, Cisco ranked 1st or tied for 1st in 7 out of 8 criterion and notched perfect scores in financials and market share
  • McAfee took 2nd place overall on the strength of its market share position, strong financials, broad product portfolio, and excellent scores in buyer feedback categories
  • Solid scores in solution breadth, financials, market share, and market share momentum kept Check Point in the top 3
  • Palo Alto Networks had the highest market share momentum rating of any vendor

Infonetics' 26-page network and content security scorecard evaluates the leading network and content security vendors using criteria that are commonly used by buyers to select vendors, demonstrate success in the marketplace, and position a vendor for success. The matrix rankings are based on 8 criteria including market share; market share momentum; financials; solution breadth; security; technology innovation; product reliability; and service and support. Companies ranked: Blue Coat, Check Point, Cisco, Dell SonicWall, Fortinet, Juniper, McAfee, and Palo Alto Networks. To buy report, contact Infonetics:
