Cisco and Scientific Atlanta to Showcase Next-Generation Digital Video Technologies @ NAB 2007

Las Vegas Convention Center April 16 - 19 Booth #SU9613

SAN JOSE, CA and ATLANTA, GA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- April 12, 2007 -- Every day, the number of people that use video to communicate and collaborate increases exponentially. This emerging video landscape creates new service and revenue opportunities for broadcasters and programmers. Cisco (NASDAQ: CSCO) and Scientific Atlanta's technology and expertise help you reach the millions of viewers in the human network(1) who are eager to access content in new and exciting ways.

The technologies that Scientific Atlanta is harnessing and delivering to help create next-generation networks will be on display at NAB 2007, including:

Extreme Video Quality at Low Bit Rates -- Scientific Atlanta's MPEG-4 AVC HD encoder (Model D9054™) gives our customers a powerful implementation of the newest MPEG-4/H.264 toolset for incredible high-quality, HD video at bandwidth-saving bit rates.

New Decoder Supports HD AVC, IP and Flexible Conditional Access Options -- In addition to delivering Scientific Atlanta's widely-deployed PowerVu conditional access (CA) scheme, the new D9854 HD AVC decoder will also support multiple, third-party CA systems for added flexibility. For IP-centric headends, the decoder also will deliver MPEG over IP capabilities for delivery of IP video streams. An integrated DVB-S2 demodulation option will help to expand the content capacity of existing satellites by up to 30 percent.

New Advanced Receiver Transcoder Supports Legacy and Future HD Delivery -- An Advanced Receiver Transcoder (ART) technology concept demonstration at NAB will demonstrate how programmers/broadcasters can deliver a single MPEG-4 HD feed to meet both the current and future MPEG-4 HD and MPEG-2 HD video reception needs of cable, telecom and DTH providers. The ART prototype will demonstrate the flexibility and value of transcoding MPEG-4 HD to MPEG-2 HD to support legacy service while providing a forward-looking solution for future MPEG-4 HD services, all from a single MPEG-4 feed. In the future, plans call for the ART to transcode MPEG-4 HD to standard definition video.

Flexible, Powerful Digital Content Management -- Our Digital Content Manager (DCM) delivers massive video processing horsepower for SD and HD programming, plus the versatility for seamless, customer-pleasing regional digital program insertion (DPI) and revenue-generating local ad insertion. The DCM also supports our new stat mux architecture (demonstrated at the show) which will enable content distributors and broadcasters to enjoy the freedom to mix SD and HD content in MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 formats to give them extensive flexibility as they assemble programming lineups.

New Media and The Connected Home -- Cisco and Scientific Atlanta can help broadcasters build a competitive edge and capitalize on existing video content libraries. As our NAB viral video demonstrates, we can help broadcasters generate new revenue from their video content libraries through new media initiatives using the DCM as a video integration platform.

In addition, Scientific Atlanta will also be showcasing

-- New, dual power supply MPEG-2 encoder that is upgradeable to MPEG-4
-- New release of the PowerVu Network Centre for control of an expanded
    array of products
-- ROSA™ Network management and Control system
-- IP Contribution and Distribution solutions
-- IP set-tops with middleware providers
-- Direct to Disc set-top technology

(1)The human network is composed of individuals, business partners, friends and organizations, all connected through networking technology and using devices such as PCs, cell phones, PDAs and televisions. This human network is around us, all the time, constantly in motion -- and evolving at an incredible, rapid pace.
