CITT: Appointment of Acting Chairperson

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Dec. 17, 2007) - The Canadian International Trade Tribunal is pleased to announce that Mr. Serge Frechette will assume the position of Acting Chairperson effective immediately. Mr. Serge Frechette has occupied the position of Vice-Chairperson of the Tribunal since 2006. The office of Chairperson of the Tribunal was previously occupied by Mr. Pierre Gosselin. His term of office expired on December 15, 2007.

The Tribunal is an independent quasi-judicial body that reports to Parliament through the Minister of Finance. It hears cases on dumped and subsidized imports, safeguard complaints, complaints about federal government procurement and appeals of customs and excise tax rulings. When requested by the federal government, the Tribunal also provides advice on other economic, trade and tariff matters.
